It was the cat's fault really, he was in the way.
I have accidentally squirted lemon juice onto my laptop LCD screen and even though I wiped it with a tissue then a water dampened soft cloth, the screen has gone dark as if it's on battery power and the power is dropping.
Please tell me this can be fixed and how I can do it. I just cannot afford another computer.

I had a wonderful experience with this kind of problem when I faced with my laptop. This same situation happened to me. And I just cleared every thing and waited till dry off.
But no use.. I got spots on my screen. As I am good in hardware troubleshooting, I Just opened my scree and cleaned all layers and fixed. Now my display problem got solved.
This may be risk for you, if you doesnt have any experience with hardware troubleshooting. but its very simple if your display is related TFT technology.

Shut it off. Remove the battery and check that the terminals are dry. Now put the battery somewhere dry. Inspect your laptop closely to check that there is no fluid inside the case. Almost certainly some has run between the screen and the casing and is causing a short. Put the whole thing somewhere warm and dry and leave it for at least 24 hours. Then reassemble and fire it up. Whilst that's happening pour yourself a stiff drink and pray.

I checked the battery, it's right at the front on the left, I squirted the juice, about 7 drops, on the right. I checked to see if the battery was dry and I removed the DVD drive, both were dry...I really thought they would be. I cannot see any other way of accessing inside. I've shut it off and noticed on the start up screen that the right side has faded. I'll have a look tomorrow night. Is there any way I can look under the keyboard keys for dampness?
Oh, I'm on my old laptop now...and thanks hon.xx
PS, your emails are coming back from the yahoo acct. I've sent you some pearlers from last Sunday and they are coming back "Undeliverable".

I don't know what to tell you. This sounds like it could be a problem. Do you have anyone you can call that works with computer repair? Maybe they could offer some suggestions.

Yes, royal, it is. It's still dark. I'm trying to work the function keys with no luck. There are buttons and icons on the machine and I have no idea what they are...for all I know I have inadvertently touched something to make the screen go dull. How a few drops of lemon juice could do that I have no idea. Luckily I have a back up.

I was reading this post with great interest because it has happened to me too. Mine was water, not lemon juice, and no cat was involved, it was just me being clumsy. Same end result though.
I read p1ke's answer and was intently following the instructions. Then I came to the final line LOL
It is only 8 o'clock in the morning here p1ke, should I still pour myself a stiff drink? And MsTickle, whatcha doing with a lemon at your laptop anyway?
Just askin'....

It happened at lunch time which was about 11 hours ago. I work on my laptop on the dining room table, where I eat my meals. I was having fish and chips for lunch and I squirted lemon juice on the food and of course, some went in the wrong direction onto my laptop screen.
I'm lucky enough to have a backup laptop.

Cripes, that's a bit exxy slick. I reckon they know how badly addicted we are to the net and general computer use so they charge like wounded bulls.
I'm using my old laptop now. I had it in for a service and repair twice a while back...They charged me $20 then $70 and I'm finding the problems are still there. I'm going to save up for a new laptop. I should be good to go in a few years...lol

Check that out from the computer shop. They might be able to change the screen of your laptop. Cats can sometimes be a nuisance while we are surfing the net. When they see movable things they will just spring up and accidentally hit our computer.

oh wow..is it a soft screen?
it may dry out-but if not, you'll have to take it in to be cleaned probably.depends if any got into the case.

Yes, scarlet, an lcd screen. It was just the screen that got wet with several drops of juice which I wiped off straight away then I used a damp soft cloth to clean the whole screen. I was using it for a little while then I had a nap and eventually posted this discussion. I'm using a spare laptop now. It seems to be going ok. Both laptops are second hand and fairly old. I think I'll save for a brand new one before I spend any more money on these two.

Hi Ms Tickle,
I wondder if you have already fixed it but my advice it to switch eveything right off and wait a while before switching it on again, it is frientening when things like that happens to your computer so that is while I don't have anything liquid near my computer, they are so sensitive, hope its ok hun.

Hi cutie,
. I hope it's okay too. I have a back up luckily. I work on the dining table and have my meals and coffee here too. Banjo loves to share this space as well sometimes so it is all a recipe for disaster, I have to count myself lucky that I haven't done anything till now.
Thanks for popping in.
