I use wallpaper boarder on my daughters bathroom 10 years ago, and I am sick of it. I am thinking of painting the room. Is it necessary to remove the border or can I paint over it?

yes because there will be a ridge in the paint if you try to paint over it.

i seriously think that you should remove the border before you paint just because i think it will look sort of funny if you just paint over it. you will still have the bump in the wall where the border was. it should be that hard to get rid of should it?

Unless it happens to be the paintable type border, you shouldn't paint over it. The wet paint causes the border to loosen, and you end up removing it anyway. Strip the border first, and remove all remaining traces of glue. It is a big job to apply a sizing mixture to ensure all the glue is removed. It is usually easier to just paint the room, and apply new or different border.
