Is it easier to lose weight or to gain weight?

This might be a slightly controversial discussion...
Most people would say gaining weight is easy. You just need to eat more. Or eat some chocolate.
Well, I am one of those people who just can't put weight on. My husband is just on a diet to lose weight. He lost over 20kg already. I tried to gain weight at the same time and only managed to put 1.5kg on.
My husbands says I should be happy - I eat all day, chocolate and crisps, meat and potatoes, pasta and vegetable and still don't put weight on. But there is no health reason why I am so slim and I am at the lower limit of a healthy weight.
So I personally think, losing weight is easier. There is only so much I can eat without having stomach pain, being bloated and feeling generally crap. But to lose weight, you just need to eat less or healthier.
Both is a pain, that's for sure.
But what do you think, is it easier to put on weight if you are too slim or to lose weight if you are too big.

I've been losing weight, and I've lost over 30 lbs since the first of June, and I can't say its the most fun I've ever had, but honestly, this has been the easiest diet I've ever been on, and, don't worry, its more or less supervised by a medical person - since its the same diet that my roomie is on to lose the weight to have bypass surgery - still waiting on the surgery...
the medical staff think I'm pretty great to help out her diet by going on it with her - I think it does make it easier to do the diet thing if you do it with someone

30lbs - wow, that's great. You're right. Doing a diet together probably makes it easier. I guess for me putting on weight is partly so hard because I have to cook low calory for my husband and high calorie for me at the same time. Which means I am running around a lot getting both sets of dinner ready!!!

It totally depends on the type of person. If you have a sluggish metabolism then losing weight is going to be a challenge, but if you have a naturally speedy one then gaining it is next to impossible. Losing weight can be easy if you have no health problems making it difficult, simply put less calories in and burn more. If you are naturally thin as a rail then gaining can be difficult because not only do you have to dramatically increase your calorie intake but you have to try and build muscle, which is a lot of work!

I absolutely agree. I know how hard it is for my husband to lose weight and he can't believe how much I struggle putting on weight. We just never get what we want!!!

Gaining weight is much easier. I would be thankful if losing it is much easier. I've been trying to loose weight for how many years. My weight is just fluctuating. I used to be small and skinny but after puberty, I've been gaining weight but not that much.

I've been trying to gain weight for years as well! I guess it just depends on the person and body. I can say 100% that for me loosing weight is easier. I lose weight if I have a stressful day and miss lunch once. My husband is jealous alright, but for me it's a burden always to make sure that I eat a little more to keep my weight up...
