are avatars reflective of the user's personality?

Some people use their own pictures and I think it is expressive of their openess. I may be wrong but that's what I feel. Some uses funny looking pictures which is indicative of their sense of humor. I used an old picture I saw in one of the photo editing software and it was not for anything. I don't have any particular reason. Someone PMed me asking if I am a priest or something. LOL She said I appear to be serious in the topics I post and they are mostly related to family and religious issues. She thought that I was the one she sees in my avatar. I find that interesting. what do you think?

In my case- I think it expresses my personality. I chose a picture I love of my 5 dogs having fun and it is one of my favorite photos because I think the fact that I got them all in one shot and in such a great situation that it was a miracle in itself. But I can see what you mean about the other references - you can tell someone is humorous in some of the funny shots or maybe their like of fantasy from using pictures of unicorns or dragons.. but I find it interesting that you chose a picture that you say has no meaning to you.. you must have found it alluring in some fashion.. something most have attracted you to it to have chosen that particular picture as your avatar.. Maybe a past life.. lol maybe you like that era.. or some subconscious memory was triggered. Makes one think anyway, doesn't it?

Hmm, interesting! My avatar is actually a picture of me, but it has a load of art filter stuff done to it. I suppose that means I am open but insecure about my appearance...lol

clouds - rays of light through the clouds
Because we are all individuals, we choose our avatars for various reasons. Some of us keep the same avatar for years and others constantly change them. I'm sure there is a good reason for some choices. As you say, some would be for their sense of humour, some would show their interests, some their hobbies, their pets etc. My name and avatar reflect me and my priorities in life. I chose my name and avatar not because I like watching clouds, although I do admire them and marvel at them as part of God's amazing creation. I chose mine because the top priority in my life is my relationship with my heavenly Father, through the Lord Jesus Christ, and I long for His coming, when we who believe will be "caught up together in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air".

That's a good one. Yes, the blessed hope of all those who put their trust in the Son of God, the rapture of the saints. What a blessed picture. God bless!

to my opinion, avatars are not only a part of your personality or character which you would like to represent you but you can never consider it as the actual or the whole personality of the user. like for my my avatar is simply the character i like so much, i am ang avid winnie the pooh fan, and that was just it. but its not my whole personality. It only a part of us that we think is best to represent us.

The total personality can not be expressed in a simple avatar, I'm sure but at least part of it is reflected. Have fun.

I believe it's true. But I also believe that sometimes people just use random avatar, just like me. I use this avatar because I didn't know what picture to use when I joined MyLot. I love manga and anime, so I use this picture, LOL

We have done the same. Mine was the most handy one at that time and I don't have good pictures of myself anyway. Have fun.

i think most of the time, its the opposite. its an online presence and people cannot really see the real you so why not go for the best avatar which you are dreaming to be right? =) it could be the person's real self in the avatar or something that is hidden inside him or her that cannot be expressed out in the open except in cyberspace where people dont really know you. =)

Yeah, sometimes it reflect the real personality of the person who upload it. In my cases I put the photos of my cute nieces holding a teddy bear which is very playful. I myself think and look younger than my ages which I always been mistaken as still a teenagers although I never intentionally likes to look like it. But, it is the way the people around me interpret my personality as being patience and loves a funny person as very infectious to me making me happy.

I think yes, avatars are really meant to reflect your personality, your mood, etc. The avatars you choose reflects what kind of a person you are. Because you wouldn't just use an avatar if you didn't actually liked it. I think it sort of projects your inner image to others. Talking about your avatar, I think that you might have chosen it because reflects your image or you think or want to be someone like the one in your avatar. Nothing in this world happens without a reason. When you say that you didn't really have any particular reason to choose this avatar, it means that it might have been your subconscious mind that made you to take that decision. Other wise you would have chosen something else or left it blank.

I guess an avatar - while giving you a sense of privacy - is an unconscious reflection of some facet of your personality. When I chose my avatar (Garfield), I intentionally picked a cartoon charater whose personality I like and enjoy and admire. Is that a reflection of my personality? Well, yes and no, I guess. Do I wish I could have more of a carefree attitude like Garfield? Oh yes. Does it matter if I don't? Not really. But, I want to believe that his posture in the picture - open arms - is an indication that I am friendly and welcoming :) I think this is your cue now...

Avatar use for express your personality, but in here avatar not only use for that. Sometime people only put random picture in avatar. That is like my avatar, I only choose random picture from my computers

i dont think so. people try to make him as the personality they have. but i feel while they design they start experimenting them. they put those clothes some time they dont wear in their real life. that is an example. some time they make their avatar as it must look cool even if they are not. so i dont think that avatar reflects.

I though also that you are a priest or pastor because of your posted discussions and response. Aren't you? I am just curious..Well, there are those who only used avatar photo and I think it indicate their own personality.
