Respect for one's national flag

I am a citizen of the United States. Our flag is very distinctive, a blue square (rectangle?) in the upper left corner with 50 (currently) white stars, and 13 red and white stripes elsewhere. There are unenforced recommendations as to the proper displaying and treatment of our flag, the most information I found at http://www.suvcw.org/flag.htm I found references to other nations' flags, one from India imploring people to respect their flag with a few very simple rules (http://www.hindujagruti.org/activities/campaigns/national/respect-flag/) Now I have seen people here in the country I live deliberately dress in blue with white stars in one part, red and white stripes in another part, I just bite my tongue and deal with it. But today I saw something that I do not tolerate. Though there is not one thing I can do about it effectively, except to voice my opposition. The program's name is "Affliction" - it is that boxing perversion that isn't boxing, it's the media's equivalent to add more violence to those who want to pay for such trash, but that is another subject. This big shot person, probably some big star in the field, comes out with what appears to be a flag of the United States draped on shoulders. Wait, it gets worse. This "person" wipes his forehead with what appears to be the flag of the United States and casually drops it down unceremoniously on a chair, or table, I could not tell as it happened too quickly. I was sick to my stomach. Yes, I don't like the people my fellow citizens keep voting for, but GEEZE - no way I pay such disrespect to our nation by such a callous disregard to the dignity of our nation's flag. Yes, there were court decisions that were made to protect first amendment rights to communicate our displeasure to the current administration's policies. But this wasn't a protest. It was pure, unadulterated ignorance in the name of show business. I am especially interested in the comments from members in other nations. Are you proud of your nation? What would you feel if some TV star does something like this to your nations' flags?

I'm very proud of my nation. As with every other nation, there are some "lost children", but all in all, we are a true democracy and we act as such. A TV star that violates the flag is something that should be taken seriously, but in proportion. It might be a matter of art, and then it is allowed (under strict conditions, of course and with limits). Always, the effect should be taken into consideration, as "stars" have a lot of influence on our society. Unfortunately, other nations seem to think lightly on other nations flags. Almost every day the US or Israel flags are being burned by fanatic people around the globe. This kind of disrespect to other nations can only result in farther barbarism and violence - not only for other nations, but also to one's own countrymen. This is not only a sign of hating another nation - this is a sign of a lack of patience and acceptance. So, considering all of this - respecting any national flag is required in order to grow a more civilized, accepting and patient generation.
