1. cloudwatcher (3491) | 3 months ago | The Bible does not talk of the end of the world, but it certainly talks of the end of the world as we know it.
While no one knows when Christ will return to take His children with Him to heaven, leaving absolute chaos on earth, the Bible does detail numerous things that will happen before that event. I am thrilled that the present state of the world lines up with those details. We can expect Christ's return at any time, knowing it could happen before I finish typing my reply, or that it might not happen for many years to come.
Personally, I believe the time of the rapture, followed by great tribulation is not far away. The important thing is to BE READY.

2. manong05 (2930) | 3 months ago | The Bible clearly outlines the events that will preceed the end of the world as we know it. Earthquakes, famimes and wars among others. We see them happening around us with increasing frequency and devastation effects. In the midst of all these events, the Son of Man will come as a thief in the night, when people least expect Him. Those who put their trust in the Son of God are looking to this blessed event that they will be with their Saviour.
Have a great day.

headhunter525 (1447) | 3 months ago | Are you quoting from Matthew 24, Mark 13 etc? I don't think natural calamities are happening with increasing frequency. Nor do I think the effect has been more devastating that before. I don't quite agree with some people who say that the world is getting worse and worse. I think it's very difficult to measure that. One can say that in average more people are killed in the past than now. Now the status of women is better; slavery of the old is gone; education is available for more people; there is more food and shelter; earthquake houses are constructed; cylone victims are taken care of; human rights record has improved much better etc etc.
Of course, since the universe will die out in future, in that sense the end is getting nearer.

3. positiveminded1977 (4517) | 3 months ago | The Bible is a load of trash scribbled by a bunch of barbaric Hebrew drunkards under the influence of some strong alcoholic beverage. Why on earth would I take their rants and ravings seriously? The earth, like anything else, is temporary. It will one day die like you and me. Who knows when? And who cares? Cheers and happy Mylotting

headhunter525 (1447) | 3 months ago | Who are those barbaric Hebrew drunkards? This is a strong accusation! I would love to read evidences that more or less prove the writers were drunkards.
As you said the earth is temporary. Or for that matter the whole universe is going to die as dead energy increases. One option is eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we die. The other one is to construct a meaningful existence for both now and later, if there is any later life. It's about worldview.

positiveminded1977 (4517) | 3 months ago | Of course, it is a strong accusation, headhunter. You expect me to use weak words about a religion that made my life hell for nearly 30 years? I repeat, the writers of the Bible were a barbaric tribe. As for evidence, read their words.
I don't know whether I have read your words right...but are you trying to imply that eating, drinking, and being merry has no meaning? Funny! I suppose to live on air then?? And you make a long face and weep all the time?? Eh? That is meaningful? What exactly has meaning for you?
| |
|
|
headhunter525 (1447) | 3 months ago | But you have still not answered my question. Who are those barbaric Hebrew drunkards who wrote the Bible? If you don't like Christian religion I have no issue with it. After all it's your personal choice.
I did not say that such life is not meaningful. Nor did I say that one has to have long faces and weep all day. What I meant to say is that to be able to construct a meaningful and cheerful life both now and later would be more meaningful. Of course life is not always full of laughter and joy; whatever we do and how rich we are sorrow and pain are part of life as much happiness and pleasure are. For some suffering may dominate whereas for others it may be other way round.

positiveminded1977 (4517) | 2 months ago | And could you kindly tell me why you feel I MUST answer your questions? Don't I have the right not to answer any questions just as I have the right to voice my opinions about a particular book and its writer in a public forum? Who are you that I MUST answer your questions? Are you appointed lawyer by the writers of this book and are we in a court of law where I am expected to prove all my actions and words so that you can pass sentence? We are no longer in the age of the inquisition.
Besides, being a Chritian you ought to know the identity of these writers, right? More so since you consider it a holy book inspired by God. The only difference between you and me is that you believe it to be inspired by God and I believe it to be inspired by madness, cruelty, and of course, drink.
And I really have no time for these idiotic arguments. We don't even get paid for it. LOL!!
I have told you repeatedly that the world is made up of different people and the sooner you develop tolerance for people who don't believe in what you believe, the better for you.

debrakcarey (1351) | 1 month ago | Boy, you sure picked your name right.
So, why are you here to discuss the Bible if you feel that way about it?
I can understand if someone used the Bible to hurt you and make you miserable, that you would be angry but why continue to allow that, now that you do not have to? Move on...if you don't like the Bible...and let those of us who do discuss it in peace.
BTW...it is not God who hurt you. And to hate Him is counter productive. Whoever hurt you and made you miserable....had free will and did so without God's blessing.

4. headhunter525 (1447) | 3 months ago | It's nearer in one sense as the world will eventually die out.
But I can't agree with the kind of ending that's portrayed in movies/novel like Left Behind. The Left Behind kind of ending is hardly accepted among Christian theologians. I wonder if they did just for money... just as Dan Brown did his Code thing just for money. You know Brown did not believe what he wrote in his Da Vinci Code about Christianity and the Bible etc. People love suspense and conspiracy theory, and so the whole business of money making.
