Philips prattism promotes palace closure.  email this discussion to a friend?

Maybe Mr Windsor of the palace is finally fed up of all the freebies. Maybe he's not too happy about escorting wifey around the globe for luxury free travel at the tax payers expense. The only reason he and his gaffes have survived the years is the questionable arguement that he along with the rest of the leeches attract tourists. So when I read this little gem I presume he's annonuncing closure of the palace as I doubt he's going to earn enough to keep it going without them.

"The problem with London is the tourists. If we could just stop tourism."

So should the UK ban tourists or Mr Windsor? (aka as Prince.)

neither. i simply think that the way we exhibit the royal family should be changed. now letting them roam freely has clearly not worked - tourists hardly ever catch a glimpse of them. no i suggest spacious enclosures in the palace grounds where they can prattle about to their hearts' content but tourist will get better value for their entrance fee as they will be guaranteed a sight of these strange (and lets hope endangered) creatures.

Well it could work but I'm totally against them having any luxury at all so we can go with your fenced off area but with special little window set in, like in prisons, where they have to sit and be forced to talk to tourists on unbreakable phones.

you are a little harsher than me. i don't approve of training zoo animals to do tricks - it's undignified and really only done to give visitors a cheap laugh.

myLot reputation of 96/100. thea09 (5382)   ranked 3 out of 144 in p.e.  3 years ago

I only said they had to hold a phone and speak into it, I didn't say they had to make any actual sense.

ok that's not too bad. although i think it might be a little unpleasant for whatever tourists have been conned into having a chat with them. can they just stay behind sound-proofed glass and wave?

myLot reputation of 96/100. thea09 (5382)   ranked 3 out of 144 in p.e.  3 years ago

I think it could be arranged for the tourists to pay extra to have the mute button engaged.

Jb, have you any excess brocoli to feed them on?

This sounds like a call to revolution. I would simply exile him to his home country!lol

As for banning tourists, the taxpayers would have to pay a massive sum of money to bail out Stratford-upon-Avon. I have no problem with London suffering from a shortage of tourists (who normally get ripped off by touts there anyway). In fact, as an exiled Northerner, I have no problems with London suffering - periodw00t! I would feel sorry for the staunch citizens of Stratford-upon-Avon thoughcry.

Hi Tony, we most certainly have no intention of having him back overhere, or at least not until he's stuffed in a glass case. Now your argument falls flat as the tourists who flock to Stratford-upon-Avon do so because of the Bard, as you well know, and not because of the council house scroungers down in the palace, so removal of the latter would not detract tourists from visiting the theatre.happy

sadsorry, I thought that we were banning all tourists! No doubt the RSC would not be allowed to perform Henry V etc any more, just Hamlet, Love's Labours Lost etc.

As for sending him home, that is the UK policy with undesirable alienshappy. As an alternative I would offer, putting him up with his entire family in a council flat in one of the high-rise blocks in Salford at the end of the of the East Lancs Road (assuming they are still there - I doubt whether Maggie succeeded in selling any of them off, given their condition), and making them live off the basic state pension.thumbup

I'm afraid that little Philip didn't actually specify as to all of the UK or just London, he'd probably already lost the plot before the end of his sentence. No barring of Shakespeare's works, I'll allow the royal chain to go onto what should have been it's natural end once and for all with old Ollie and the beheading of Charles.
I totally approve of your high rise plans for them and we can give Mr Windsor as job as lift operative so he can spend all day only boring the number of people who can fit in the lift (that's elevators in case any Americans read this.)happy

Sounds like Mr. Windsor should go. Tourism makes any area a lot of money and with the economy the way that it is every area needs the extra money.

Hi Zeph, the irony is that he would have gone long ago without the arguement that the whole royal clan attracted tourists to the UK, but now as he diapproves of them time to put him out to pasture in less luxorious quarters.lollol

i would think that would be cutting his own throat.
tourism means money to local businesses, which goes invariably to taxes, which ends up eventually in royal coffers..
i hope he has a plan B for later on lol

Hi Scarlet woman. You can see what we have to pay for which attempts to pass for brains here. About the best arguement that they've got going for them is that the tourists like them, so lets get rid of all the tourists. Duhlol

Hi sunny, personally I'd rather they were put on public dispaly for a public execution but I like your ironic twist here. I gather you'd be glad too to see the back of this last bastion of colonianism.thumbup

Definitley would. And if they were stuck inside the tv box as you suggest there would be an enormous saving on security as they already have their own.thumbup
