The network information on your computer will only tell you what your LOCAL speed is (what your network card is capable of). To find out the actual speed at which your computer is downloading and uploading (the two speeds will usually be different: download is generally much faster than upload), use this link: http://www.speedtest.net/

I notice that, since I last visited, the site has a Beta version of a new thing called 'Pingtest'. This tests your connection for quality in connection with streaming audio and video - if you listen to streamed radio or watch TV online, for example. There are terms like 'jitter' and 'packet loss' used. (I know what 'packet loss' is but I don't understand 'jitter'!) These needn't concern you too much unless you are into this kind of thing!

Once you have done the tests, you can save your results (or it will do it automatically, so that when you revisit the site, you can see your previous results and compare them, provided you have the same IP address). You can also copy a link to your results to post on forums, like this: http://www.speedtest.net/result/586399194.png

I should also say that different websites have different speeds which may affect your perception of 'fast'. This is because of their own connection to the Internet, the number of users accessing the connection and many other things. It has nothing to do with your speed of connection.
MyLot is reckoned as 'slow' by the test sites that I have seen.
