What people won't forget

When Maya Angelou was being interviewed on the Oprah Winfrey show on her 70+ birthday, she made the following remark 'I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel'. As I thought about it I realized the truth of these words. We always get a good feeling when we remember certain people, it may have been classmates or co-workers or someone we met only once, yet they made an impact on us because they made us feel good. We remember the rude people too but with an entirely different feeling, the point is though, we do remember them. What kind of memories are you and I creating as we interact with others?

Here on mylot I try to make people feel welcome and safe, sometimes I try to get them to think a bit. But mostly I want them to enjoy themselves so that they will stay and play.

Right Pose we never forget how others let us feel. A smile from a stranger let us feel happy that we do appreciate much that the next time we meet him, because of that feeling we seemed to be ready to become his friend. We won't forget when a close relative say something bad that hurts us. We won't forget when our boss recognize our good performances by giving us awards and rewards. We won't forget our friends who took time out just to see and greet us on our birthdays. As we interact with others as much as possible we want to create pleasant memories they would cherish, though sometimes unintentionally or without knowing we may create unpleasant memories, hurting them, that they may never forget.

Truer words have never been spoken. There are certain people in my life who have made me feel awful, and who I am leary around because I don't want to get hurt again, and then there are those people who have made me feel really really good, and no matter who the person is, their kindness will be remembered. These people are not who you'd expect them to be. I have a couple of relatives who I really don't get along with, yet one of my favourite people is a local bus driver who I see every day, when he drives me to the coffee shop.
