I have a problem with consistantly high blood preasure. I have had this for many years, without the medical people thinking it was bad enough to prescribe any medication. However, now a doctor has put me on tablets, to see if they can bring my blood reading down. He also advised me to stop drinking coffee and tea, as they would contribute to a higher reading. Now, here lies my promlem. For someone who has stopped smoking (about 30 years ago) and drinking alcohol, (bearly 20 years ago) you would thing this would be relatively easy. Wrong! Every morning for as long as I can remember, I have started my day with a pure fruit juice, and a hot coffee. I have tried Milo and hot chocolate, but eventually return to the coffee. So, I will be grateful to anyone who can suggest to me what I can replace the coffee with. PLEASE! I need to get my BP down to a good level.

I think you just have to be firm with what you do. if you really decide to drop the habit of drinking coffee or tea, then you should act on it and be firm. if your health is really that important to you, then it souldn't be that hard. Also, when you find that substitute, may it be chocolate drink, juice or milk, you have to think of the positive characteristics of that drink and not try to compare it wit coffee or tea because you will end up longing to taste coffee or tea again..you can do it!!! you just need some perseverance it's for your own health anyway..Good luck!!!

Hey calai, I can understand what you're saying, and I should stop drinking coffee to start the day, what I was looking for is another option. I already have tomato or pure orange juice, and that's fine in hot weather, but in the winter, I need something hot, to substitute.

I see.. I don't really know how it's like during the winter in your place because we don't have the same seasons here. But the alternatives you said are great. they are tasty and healthy too.. fruit or vegetable juices are the best i guess.. but still my personal favorite is milk! i love milk hot or cold!yummy!

I did not give up drinking coffee when my BP was high, and i quit taking the pills that they put me on.
What i did was start exercising every day, getting plenty of sleep, started eating organic. And drinking more filtered water and i supplement with garlic, both fresh and pill, and i take a supplement called COQ10 everyday, and i also take a number of different other supplements, but the ones mentioned are for heart health.
My Bp, and cholesterol, and my sugar are all under control now and i do not take any prescription medication any more.

Hi dlr, that's interesting, when I was living in Thailand, I usually got plenty of sleep, and drank a lot of filtered water, and BP was up, but never to a point where pills were prescribed. However, experiencin a cold winter for the first time in ten years, has reduced my water intake, and increased my coffee. I will check out COQ10. Thanks for your input.

I am a coffee lover so my heart goes out to you! Are you allowed decaf? I don’t know whether it tastes any different or not. One of my friends has decaf with soy milk and she loves it! I would pass on the soy but decaf would be worth a try. My sister likes to drink green coffee; she says that it has many health benefits although I don’t know what the effects on high blood pressure are with that.
