Why is it that when we laugh so hard, our stomachs hurt?

I've been thinking about it since yesterday when me and my friends had a laughing marathon. My friends are really funny hahaha. Is there a medical explanation on this? or why do you think it happens?

Hi kafueenu
I think it has something to do with the muscles. Have you ever noticed that when you laugh that your stomach moves. Well that is because you are using muscles that you normally don't use. Then to have them muscles to move repeatly during the laughing causes them to ache. That is what I have been told.. Good discussion and I hope I have given you some light on the subject. Keep smiling and have a good day..

I think that they would. The way I understand it is that their are tiny muscles located in the stomach that we normally don't use that often. When we do it makes them ache. I know when I have had one of those laughing fits then sometimes the next day my stomach hurts a little on certain movements..
