Has your company offered you to partake in a furlough to keep your job? Would you take the furlough if offered? What do you think of this tatic?
The next county over is looking @ doing furloughs as well as the state to help keep the costs down. I personally agree with this. I'd rather skip a day of pay here and there than loose my job. And with these jobs being "lifer" jobs typically and they pay exceptionally well one would think they would be ok with the idea. Afterall McDonalds isn't even hiring, where would they go to collect the kind of benefits + money they make?

my state's trying to force a whole bunch of state workers to take a week off.
the funny thing is,when i worked full time(in the service industry),we never got extra days off-i would have loved one now and then.interesting how the economy's changing that.back then they'd run me up to 11 days in a row and imply they'd find a way to fire me if i didn't do it.

Yes, but these city and state workers they can't threaten to be fired they have a union to back their arses. Most of those workers have their jobs for life. Anyone in any form of the service industry they can replace @ the drop of a hat with someone else for minimum wage. Sadly right now the only jobs out there are minimum wage so plenty of jobs for "all" I know I don't get paid high than that right now but w/o childcare I can't just get a 9-5 job

I would definitely be willing to compromise with an employer. Unfortunately, I don't have one. I was let go in January from my temp-to-hire job and there is no temp work. I was working temps because there are no full time jobs except ones that will keep me on my feet and I can't stand more than five minutes without pain.
So I don't understand why people are making such a big fuss in those high paying jobs unless they're one of the many that are living paycheck to paycheck beyond their means and they have to downsize their lives--downsizing is a small price to pay for a job.

Well they are all protesting, complaining to their union heads ect. Sadly the rest of us in the real world live paycheck to paycheck and have downsized to keep afloat & hoping we can pay the next bill. It blew me away when I worked @ a finanical institution when people who made double what I did at the time were maxed out constantly. I'd be thinking I was rich! Shoot even making what I did then I'd feel rich as I've gone w/o alot since being home.
