We just graduated from the diaper-buying phase on my kid. He just learned how to sleep through the night withour wetting the bed. A couple months back he learned to go to the washroom by himself. We'll save money not having to buy diapers anymore!
The funny thing is, we did not have to teach him. We leave him for a couple hours at a baby sitter with other kids. I guess he saw other kids doing it, and he just decided he'll do the same.
You parents out there, how did you potty train your kids?

My oldest was difficult. She refused and refused then one day she started going on the potty here and there and then it got to be all the time & consistant. Some of that started getting better once she got into speech therapy & like your child saw others doing it and wanted to join in.
My middle she did it on her own, she was done right before her 2nd b-day. She was super easy, she saw the potty sat on it, praised her alot and cheered when we went to go dump our potty & flush (I did that too w/ my oldest).
The lil guy well he just turned 2 & will go on the potty as long as he's bare bottomed but doesn't always "go" but it's still a start. He wanted me to help him get his diaper off after he did #2, wich is a lil sign he doesn't like wet or icky on his bum anymore either.... baby steps! I'm hoping to be done by 3 or at latest 4 as they say boys take longer.

Oh yeah! We went through that phase too! Where he would ask to take his diaper off, but only after he did #2. Right then we felt it was close. But still, it took a few months for him to learn the concept of before and after.
And yeah, I also noticed that boys seem to take a little longer. Girls his age were potty trained way earlier than him.
