Are you cut-out to be a manager or you are happy to just be a follower?

I know of someone who was promoted to be a plant manager in a big furniture company and it was a prestigious position. Unfortunately, it was barely 2 months that he requested to be demoted, for he just couldn't handle the job of leading a group of workers. He has to make adjustments in relationships as it affects him a lot being an ordinary worker rising from the ranks. He was accused of being pro-capitalist instead of looking after the workers welfare. Tough job it was, being a manager. Maybe it is a natural gift. Are you happy to just be a follower rather than leading?

Hi,man,Leaders are born not made.In my case some how i don't know i to be act as follower, but proved as the best follower. In my career initial 6 years worked as starting cadre i.e sales officer in a fertilizer company. At that time i as happy but after getting promotion as manger[operations] i have to getting done work from 50 employees. The problem is all are different mentalities, different ideas,capabilities,behaveour.....it is horrible to manage. But i have to see that the target should be completed as i have to answerable to my boss. Some times i feel it is more happy for me to work as follower. As i am introvert, sensitive, soft spoken,i can't fit well for leader. Have a nice day.

hello Baluyadav, promoted to a leadership position will certainly put us in a different environment full of greater responsibilities. Great positions come with greater responsibilities and we really have to weigh our options. The work of the rank and file is certainly, enviable. Their worries stop when the work hours ended but for most managers, their minds are still active long after the office hours are finished. One must really be born with a talent to be effective. enjoy!

I gravitate to leading people. I love to motivate, organize and get things done. I have been in management about 8 years now and love it. Yes there are some very hard days but for the most part it is a satisfying job.

Personally i think you are making things way to black and white here...i think there are a lot of shades of gray... Just because someone doesnt want to be the leader..i.e. manager, president, etc etc...doesnt necessarily mean that they are a follower... Some people are quiet leaders...some people are accomplishers, some are encoragers... In my mind the way you mean follower is someone who just takes orders blindly and does whatever they are told... You can be a very independant person who accomplishes a whole lot even if you arent a stand out from the crowd have to be on TOP kind of person.

In my opinion managers don't do very much. Personally at all my past jobs my managers didn't do anything that I considered real work. I'm there busting my butt and they are on the internet or on their cellphones, or playing with there rc cars. Haha. So I think I could be a manager. I show more concern about our work place than they do.

I simply love to manage, organise and delegate. Whatever I handle my job at office, running my home, or organising parties I have always liked people around me who can take orders!!!
