Do you plan your meals at least a day ahead of time or do you cook what your family wants at the time. I try to have whatever the kids will eat. I don't want them to go hungry and I know they won't eat some of the stuff. I tried introducing new foods to them, but my son has a sensory issue with textures. My daughter just will not eat meat. It's cute to a point. No one else in the family is like that though. Do you plan your meals and shop once a week or do you try to keep different foods on hand?

Well, it depends on where I am having my meals. As you know I have no kitchen and without even a sink to wash dishes and so forth even a microwave and hotplate just don't work. But if I am at my other home I sometimes plan ahead. Lately though I only fix breakfast and occasional dinners.

That has to be hard on you. Do you ever think they will be done with it? It's good you can still fix a little something. I would hate to have to eat out constantly.

I don't know. I am just trying to get things in order so that I can do something else and it won't matter anymore.

I think you should migrate to Singapore. You can do away with cooking, since eating out can be cheaper than cooking. A plate of chicken rice can cost just S$2 to S$3, and your son can eat Malsy food, Chinese food, Indian food and other food. If you get sick of all the food, you can eat grass. That is free, no need to pay tax, and being a tropical island, the grass is available throughout the year. Many eating places are opened 24 hours too. Your son can go and buy supper at 2 am in the morning while you are dreaming of eating cockroaches oh.

haha, the only thing good about Singapore is the cheap cooked food. Sometimes we are too lazy to go out for dinner or lunch. Almost all households in Singapore have a few packets of instant noodles for emergency use. A pack of five instant noodles cost about S$2, and plus an egg and some spring onions, the cost of the instant noodle comes to less than one buck. However, instant noodles are full of chemicals, and not good for health. I think your son will pull down the whole house after eating the instant noodle oh!

Hello dear friend Ms. M, Yes, we do our weekly grocery and after organizing what we bought we prepare our weekly menu. It's good to do this you will see on weekly basis how much money you will spend and save. You know what? the big slice of our budget for our weekly food is for my kids. We have a special diet for special son. Of course i don't want him to be hungry so we make sure that we have enough on stock.

What is your son's diet. I have a son with autism and I am getting ready to experiment with diet. I think he will be better off on a diet with less carbs, but his little body needs a lot of carbs to grow.

My eldest loves to eat fries, fried chicken, cakes with these flavors--mocca, chocolate and custard, soya milk, juice and pancake, canton noodles. That's he's diet and everytime he eats anything with flour and egg he's having allergies. This is really a problem for us because he does not want to eat other foods. He's so fixated with those i mentioned above. We are scheduling him for a work up. He's now 13.

If I don't have a lot of time and I am starving, I will make something quick like noodles or microwave chicken. Neither choice is that healthy, but at least it beats making a full blown meal.

LOL. I would like to eat only chocolate, but that isn't exactly healthy. I try to plan what to eat in order to know what to buy. I usually do not have a menu for the week because I will just fix what I want whenever. I just like a variety so I have to buy a mixture of food and that can get costly.

It is so interesting how different the cultures are. I am not very good at organization or planning meals so it would be nice to have a set thing to eat. I might get bored with the same foods though.

I tend to choose when I go shopping depending on what the bargains are and what we fancy.I don't strickly plan but as I go around I do.

I can see what you mean. As you shop you figure what day you will eat something or at least that it will be eaten that week. I can sometimes do that. Like now, every Monday is pizza night because I have a Monday movie night. This works out good because then, I only have six more nights to think about. LOL

I used to do my food shopping once a week and would plan what I would eat for the week, then I would buy only the ingredients I needed for those meals. This was a very cheap way of shopping. I would not plan which day to have those meals, but just that it would be one day that week. I now shop every 2 weeks and I buy a variety of things to make sure I can choose from a good list of things. I usually plan what I am going to cook in the morning as I will usually need to take something out of the freezer to defrost in time for cooking in the evening.

Wow! I would love to shop once every two weeks. We would go crazy here without shopping more often. LOL I bet it would cut down on food and expenses if I were to plan meals a couple weeks in advance and only buy that.
