Do you have an Amish Community in your area? Does anyone live near any Amish people? or have you ever visited an Amish community?
I think it is so unique how they live without electricity, automobiles and the other things that we would consider necessities.
Does anyone know if they have Amish Communities in other countries? or is it basically just an American tradition?

I live in California - I'm sure there are Amish people somewhere in the middle of nowhere in this state I just haven't encountered them. Granted I live in what is considered to be Los Angeles' suburbia. I haven't heard of any other Amish people in other countries - though I'm sure they have something similar in other countries.

Oh wow, California. What a great state! I have only been there a couple of times, but I loved it both times. I was in San Diego once to see my nephew graduate from the Marine Corp. basic training program. And was in Hollywood and drove the coast south to San Diego with my niece the first time. I really enjoyed the area.
Thank you for your response in this discussion, and have a good evening!

I live in Upstate New York in the Finger Lakes region.Lots of Amish and Mennonites here. I have a new website with lots of photos of them that I add to weekly. Please check it out and comment.

Ok you sparked my curiosity as well. So I looked up some things online and here is a site that goes over it pretty well. http://www.religioustolerance.org/amish1.htm apparently there are no longer organized groups of Amish in Europe but I guess that on;y means there could be small family or clan groupings still there in Germany or Switzerland.

So then there are Amish in other countries. I was always told that the Amish are also called "Pennsylvania Dutch" and that they have a German heritage. I wonder if there are Amish in Holland or in Germany. That has my curiosity flowing.
Thank you for responding in this discussion, OpinionatedLady. By the way, nice screen name. It suits perfectly for this web site. Have a great day!
