I was driving very early in the morning one day for an urgent appointment. When I reach an intersection, I saw a car that turned turtle but stopping didn't cross my my mind since I'm sure help is on the way. But after seeing a body, I decided to stop. I looked at the guy covered with blood and his eyes looked as if the lights were on but nobody's home so I carried him and took him to a hospital.

After he was taken to the emergency room, the guards held me and asked me to fill up a report and wait till the police come. It took hours. Needless to say,I missed my important apppointment. I hope that the man's life was saved. Never had a chance to find out either.

Do you have similar experiences that in your effort to help people you put your self into trouble? I was thinking had I not stopped, help would have had arrived anyway.

Any thoughts?

It's great that you helped out. Though if the guy was severely injured, you shouldn't have moved him. Never move an injured person! Call for help, and let the paramedics do all the moving and stuff.
The only time you should move somebody is if you have to for stopping profuse bleeding, or giving CPR. Otherwise, you could end up making their injury worse.

Could you go to the hospital, and ask them about him? I'm sure because of privacy reasons, they won't tell you much more than yes or no about his condition/survival. If you don't know his name, just ask about the guy that came in on whatever day and time, and they should know.

Thanks. I agree that it's not right to straight away move a person in an accident and it may cause more damage. It was a decision on the spur of the moment seeing that he might be dead. I didn't even checked his pulse or something to find out.

I thought of going back to the hospital but never had a chance. I was there for hours anyway and should a terrible thing happened to the man, they would have let me know.

cheers!

Yes, helping others sometimes creates troubles for you. I have seen it happening to my foremer colleague many times. She was my good friend. She helps people without thinking about the risk associated with the help. She won't say 'No' to anybody. So, people started taking advantage of her. I hate it. I will help somebody only if I know that the person won't take advantage of me. My friend got into trouble many times by offering unnecessary helps.

myLot reputation of 91/100. manong05 (2930)   ranked 29 out of 38,550 in life  3 months ago

yes, there is a possibility that people will take advantage if they see that we always offer a helping hand. This is a risk we have to take and sometimes it pays to be wise and be able to see if the need is legitimate or not.

cheers!

Hello manong....

I have never faced a similar incident but what you say have a foundation and I have come across problems when it comes to helping others nowadays....

And especially if the case is serious that might even be dangerous or annoying and sometimes disappointing...So what I do is I try my best to stay away from helping others especially strangers as it may take me into troubles....

But I really appreciate what you did here...but what happened after ward is disappointing....

myLot reputation of 91/100. manong05 (2930)   ranked 29 out of 38,550 in life  3 months ago

hi repented. You have a point there. But sometimes we find ourselves in a situation where we can not resist the urge to do something especially when the matter is life and death. When confronted with similar situation our actions sometimes are automatic.

enjoy life!

surely, ur reasons for missing an important appointment was even more important because u saved a human life. i am sure the party u had an appointment with understood what u did and may have set another appointment in lieu of the aborted one. i have one experience which is a little similar to ur experience but no threat to life was involved. a distant cousin who was visiting from the US came into the bank i once worked for. i very well knew her face because during school vacations, i usually spent a week or two in their house in the city. when she came into the bank, she had an inquiring look as to whom to approach to encash a check. i bounced from my seat in front of the counter and called her. to make the story short, i identified her and guaranteed for her personal checks. it was a big amount of $500.00. a month passed and unluckily, the check bounced. sad i was terrified because i guaranteed for the check and in that case, will answer for its face value, plus charges. i had the luck to get in touch with her and she sent her brother who lives in our city to refund the amount of the bounced check. whew! boy, i was relieved. it didn't matter to me anymore having to pay for the overseas call that i made to inform her about the bounced check. see, sometimes helping people will put u into trouble. i surely have learned my lesson from that incident. (my late husband kept on teasing me about my uncalled-for hospitality and kindness, hahaha)

myLot reputation of 91/100. manong05 (2930)   ranked 29 out of 38,550 in life  3 months ago

It was amazingly good for you to guarantee a person just like that. Now I know where to go in case a need a guarantor, hahahaha. Lucky for you to be able to get out of that predicament without shelling a cent other than the overseas call charge. Worse comes to worst, that may have cost you your job in some cases.

Yes, helping people will sometimes get us into trouble though it seldom happens but it's worth taking the risk. I'm sure you became extra careful after that one.LOL

enjoy life moneymakingtoday!

myLot reputation of 99/100. moneymakingtoday (1817)   ranked 2,159 out of 38,550 in life  3 months ago

well, not for that reason. i won't be separated for that reason at all. the ensuing action would be that i will be made to pay for the amount of the check. she was a distant cousin and heard that she ran an agency for nurses at that time and had long been in the US. nothing of that sort again... hahaha, never will i present myself to danger again. lol

There's nothing wrong in doing what you did, you played the good samaritan however there are times when it really doesn't pay to help someone out. You kind of made a sacrifice as it were, you sacrificed your own time to help this individual and this is a very admirable quality. I guess on the spur of the moment it's something we either do or don't do, the adrenaline seems to take over and we just act for some reason. Andrew

myLot reputation of 91/100. manong05 (2930)   ranked 29 out of 38,550 in life  3 months ago

Exactly, that's what I think happened and couldn't resist the urge to do something after seeing the person's face. If there is a help nearby, I doubt if I could have done that.

thanks Andrew.

cheers!

I am glad to know that you still helped the man despite of your appointment. My mother is fond of helping people but in the end, she was always compromised because she was always betrayed by the people whom she helped. But she still help people regardless of what happened. i guess getting into trouble is not a reason why you should stop helping others.

myLot reputation of 91/100. manong05 (2930)   ranked 29 out of 38,550 in life  3 months ago

I agree. If all people will not help each other because of fear of getting into trouble then what kind of world will this be.

enjoy!

I think you have done the right thing.Maybe you've missed your appointment or any other important things, but you've won yourself. And besides you won others' homage.

Once I found a wallet at my window when I came home. I tried to find the phonenumber of the person, but could not. So I called the police...
They questioned me as if I had robbed the wallet! There was no money in it.
I know next time I find a wallet, I'l throw it in a mailbox so the post can deliver it to the police!

myLot reputation of 91/100. manong05 (2930)   ranked 29 out of 38,550 in life  3 months ago

That's too bad, inspite of good intentions you found yourself being questioned. Your post brings to my mind an incident here years back when a househelper found a wallet with a huge amount of money. Instead of keeping it to herself she searched for the owner's house, the owner instead of thanking her called the police to take her to the station and question her the details of how she found the wallet. She was suspected of planning to eventually rob the house.

That is an extreme case. She should have kept the money she said to herself.

enjoy life!
