Would you want to have 18+ children?  | |  I don't watch the program too often, but I do hear the promotions for 18 kids and counting...and Mrs. Dugger is pregnant again. She's in her 40's and having yet another child. Figuring that she is around 42-45, this means that the newest baby won't be out of the home until she is in her 60's. And that isn't even figuring if she has yet another child or two in the next few years.
Don't get me wrong, I do love children, but having 18 of them would have me in the looney bin big time! I had my hands full with just one. I sit and think of how much has to be spent on food (their food bill is over $2000 USD a month, clothing, utilities,health insurance, and so much more. I never heard of Mr. Dugger's occupation but he has to be making darned good money to afford to build the house and feed the children-even with the money he is making from TLC! Of course the income tax deductions are really there.
Would you honestly want that many children? Would you be able to support them?

| | | 3. TexasTee38 (46) | 3 months ago |  NO! I wouldn't want that many kids, even if I was a "trillionairess"! I have two and it's work enough, keeping up with them. Don't get me wrong, I love kids but that is just too many. And you have to constantly, feed "an army" of kids, and can you imagine the utilities? And literally staying pregnant, forever and the demands on a female's uterus and not having enough time to heal from previous consistant pregnancies. Trying to help with their homework, trying to make it their recitals/sports events/science fair, etc. Cleaning up after them, disciplining them, and don't forget transportation. Unless, a school or city bus is going to be the means of transportation, there's no van, mini-van or SUV big enough to accommodate that many kids. More power to the Duggar's...I couldn't do it.
My former step-father was 1 of 20 siblings and I'm still wondering where did they ALL sleep.

The other thing about the Duggers is that they HOME SCHOOL their kids! Yikes, I couldn't do it. I am tutoring my friend in college math and that is enough for me. It's easy math, but getting something into a person's head is difficult enough without having 17 other kids needing attention.
I hadn't even thought about the demands on the uterus, although I did mention to one of my instructors that when it gets past the first few, it is more than likely a case of "oops, my water broke" and then a bit of a semblance of a fart and out comes the baby. Sorry people, I had one and wasn't impressed with labor, delivery or the four hundred pound nurse bouncing on my ribs to squirt the baby out like tooth paste from the tube (I bit the crap out of her!!! She was bruised like crazy from the bite, but at least she quit bouncing on my ribs. They strapped oxygen on me after they finally got me to let go of that flap of flab just above her bra line on her back. Gee, it felt good to bite that woman!!!  ) I just couldn't do that many children. I love children but not that many.
Oh, they have a bus for transportation and they travel with a RV that is one that is like a bus. They also have a couple of vans for transportation to and from the store etc. It was fascinating watching them go to the grocery store, and haul all the stuff home. I don't watch the program regularly, but I do catch it once in a while when I need to be thankful that I don't have that many children. | |
