First, this is a personal opinion and a personal experience for me. My mother has liver cancer diagnosed in 2007. We did the usual protocols prescribed by her oncologist and she did a year of chemo. But instead of the cancer going into remission, it metastasized. Doctors even told me that we would be lucky if she lived in the succeeding three months at the time she was diagnosed.

Chemotherapy is also very expensive. I don't know how much treatments are in other countries, but here in the Philippines we spent P200,000 just for one chemo session. That's around $4500 and she had a year or 12 sessions. My mother decided to stop having chemo August of last year because not only did her tumors metastasize, she was also concerned with the costs of the treatment.

I was watching TV and saw Suzanne Sommers and her decision to use alternative treatments instead of chemo. I can certainly agree with her because my mother is very much alive and well up to now. It's been a year since she stopped getting chemo and she says that she feels more energetic than when she was doing chemo. She said that she felt that her strength and health was artificial with all the chemicals being given to her intravenously. One of the things that we did was to boost up my mothers' immune system by incorporating raw vegetable juices and foods rich in vitamin C.

What about you, would you continue with chemo even if you knew it was not doing anything or would you go alternative?

Like Ms Sommers, I agree that alternative treatments can be far more better in the long run but please allow me to tell you a story that proves otherwise in this rather isolated case.
A friend of ours has lung cancer.
They did everything holistic. Lost a lot of weight and although felt better, the problem wasn't getting any better.
So they went for the chemo.
Thank the Lord that the cancer is now in remission.
This is such great news!
I am not sure how much the chemo treatments were.
If I were to be taking Chemo and did not feel that it was helping, I would stop yes, definitely.
Raw vegies are so good for us. Juicing them too.
Another idea is to go for more alkaline foods rather than acidic. As Cancer thrives in a more acidic environment.
It is shocking how many foods we eat that are acid based.
The ideal ratio is I believe 70:30
Check out this link for alkaline vs acidic foods.

and

It is very interesting.
Bless you and your Mom.

Hi anne25penn,
I am sorry to hear that.
It is unhappy for everyone if his/her family member have a cancer. Per my medical background, it is very important to have a active attitude to face cancer. Get advice from the doctor and do some therapies, including surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and bio-immunotherapy and nutritional support. As to liver cancer, there are a TACE(transcather hepatic arterial chemoembolization) therapy, if the cancer is localized or few metastasis on liver.
By the way, liver cancer is commonly not chemotherapy insensitive to chemotherapy.
Take care of your mother.

Sutent. Help me on this. What exactly did you mean when you say liver cancer is commonly not chemotherapy sensitive to chemotherapy? You mean, liver cancer is resistant to chemo almost all the time?

True. Chemo is poison. I would always go for alternative means of treatment. I have a client who used to have cancer but she only underwent chemo once. the next treatments are all alternative. I have noticed that she has been taking megadoses of both vitamin A and C. My other client also had chemo once and then switched to Zilongjin tablets. I cant remember the content, but definitely .. it is herbal.

Hi Anne,

Generally the Chemo has been recommended by the Oncologist
when required, most of the times all the oncologist would not advise this
chemo, unless it is so important, and also depends upon the necessity of
the treatments of the diseases. Because as you have knew that the Chemo
would brings lots of unwanted side effects and also it would produce
many more side effects in the body. So it is normal that your mother has
been suffered very bad when she was on the treatment of Chemo, but later
on when she is stopped that, then felt more happy, this was happened due
to stop the Chemo. So as you have said that chemo is more expensive in all
the countries and thus most of the chemo treatment would be sponsored by
the Government to the patients.

Have a nice day.

Chemotherapy is like killing ALL cells, not just the cancer cells but also the healthy cells. That's why it has both advantages and disadvangtages. You need to weigh, which treatment is better. There's also nothing wrong in taking vegetable juices.=)

I have not been down this road, but I have a problem with chemo and radiation therapy. They are poison, and I would have to think long and hard about using those treatments. I would use the homeotherapy first, look into alternatives, and weigh them against chemo and radiation. Then, if I chose them and they were not working, I would quit them. I would rather have quality of a short life, than misery and a longer life.

All that said, I think each cancer is different and will respond differently. so there is no right blanket statement.
