What do you think is the ideal spacing of children? | | Is it 1 year, 2 years or more? What are your reasons? For me 3 years is ideal because you would have recuperated from the first pregnancy/delivery and yet, the second child could still use the baby things the first child used. Too prolonged spaces would not be good because it would seem you're starting all over again. Buying new baby things, labor is like the first time, etc. and two short spaces would stress you out because you still have not recovered from the first pregnancy/delivery.

A lady might get pregnant on her first attempt but she may well have to wait until it happens. Therefore it is challenging to get that perfect gap. I think a 2 year gap is also a good spacing between children. I know that a 1 year gap is tiring when the children are young but they will probably be best friends when they are older. I know that anything over a 4 year gap and there is a big spacing between the children. My sister was born in 1967 and she asked my mum if she could have a baby brother or sister. By the time I was expected she wanted a cat or a dog. I was born in 1972 so there is a 5 year gap between us. My children have a 12 year spacing which is huge and then 2 years which is much better because they were born in 1995, 2007 and 2009.

We were able to use all of the same baby equipment which saved us a lot of money and still my daughter was old enough to "help" with the baby. My two nieces are 21 months apart and I really think that is too close together because my oldest niece was using a lot of the baby stuff still when her sister was born and they had to buy things in duplicate. With my two children, they were never using the same thing at the same time. My son used my daughter's infant carrier and when he outgrew that my daughter was ready for a booster seat and my son went into his sister's car seat. Now, when he is ready for a booster seat, I will get him one of his own because I simply don't think he wants a pink, flowered booster seat.
