Sorry. But if you make a basket you can always have soup in the basket. That's not right either. Is it steak in the basket - or perhaps chicken!

hi again go to basket making.com and ask for raffia mats. they have a whole lot of stuff on it. you make braids and sew them
together with a tapestry needle is what I got from my brief
looking into the subject. anyway basket making.com tells all about making raffia mats. hope this helps.

well yes I did google it but it didn't really come up with anything that was of much help I must say. I think we weaved it rather than braided it but my mum said that we used a card to go around on as a like template but I don't recall using one at all. When I say mats they were like place mats that you would have on your dinner table. I really want to make some.

Thanks Hatley I will check that out in a bit but I don't remember doing any sewing either, my mum might have sewn the ends in for me because I would have been about 8 years old or so. Thanks again

hi humbug I think you are right, I am sure they could be woven and I think when I was young we had some sort of cardboard thingy we used. its been so long I just don't remember now, but I know they were really pretty,the ones that I saw.

Well when I says mats I mean like table mats, place mats that sor of thing rather than rug sort of size. I will check out the other sites you have mentioned though
