Christmas Amidst Crisis |
|
Christmas, a major holiday in our country, is in the air--Christmas carols being played over the radio and the television. Despite the calamities that our country faced recently we can’t stop the fact that Christmas is just around the corner.
How are you going to celebrate Christmas amidst all these calamities and crisis? Do you have any suggestions to make it more meaningful and expense-LESS. Please share. Thanks!

I will try to ask them what dish they want for Christmas and i will let them cook each own dish, that would be less expensive,it will be exciting for them. but then again, what about the other kids, well i don't think there is a way for an expense less Christmas. Give me some more time and i will think of a way.

msfrancisco9369 (2136) | 3 months ago | That's a good idea. Personalized cards for our friends and realtives will do plus a warm hug for our loved ones. Well, for the kids it will really be different but we can always explain to them the reason behind why there's a need to save or spend less for christmas. Kids now are smart and understand.
Cooking their favorite food/dish will make the day extra special for your kids. So, what are those dishes that your kids love? Are they going to prepare or you will do it for them? THanks for responding.

mrfdg1972 (510) | 3 months ago | Now i have an idea for an expense less Christmas,we will celebrate it at the farm, its going to be eating guavas and mangoes but the kids would also have to cook their own dish. And we are going to get lots of fruits there because we have big fruits there and i know my God sons and nephews & nieces will love a 6 inch guava.

msfrancisco9369 (2136) | 3 months ago | Christmas celebration does not have to be that expensive-- as long as your family is around, being there for each other will really be an expense-less Christmas for your family. I think you are good in money management and you'll be the one to take charge of a simple but meaningful celebration for the holiday season. Thannks Ms. K!

3. doryvien (966) | 3 months ago | HI msfrancisco,
Yes, Christmas is in the air, and no matter how devastated our country has been in the past few weeks, we cannot just ignore the festive mood that naturally comes with the season. There are creative ways to celebrate Christmas without digging deeply into the pocket, I've seen some tips on the local morning shows, and I intend to try some of them. The mere presence of all family members and friends is enough to make Christmas special. Gift giving will still be there, but what gifts to give, in this difficult times is a big question. This season, I'd like to focus more on the true spirit of Christmas - love, compassion, forgiveness, generosity and contentment - these should reign in our hearts. After all, this is what Christmas is all about.

msfrancisco9369 (2136) | 3 months ago | I definitely agree with you Doryvien. If we will only reflect on the real meaning of Christmas it will be a COST-LESS celebration for us. But then again, kids are really looking forward to this season and are expecting our presents-- a checklist of practical gifts to give is best to work on now and where to buy it.
I will use indigenous materials for my christmas decor at home and recycle those old christmas stuff-- no expenses just skills to create a new one from the recycled materials.

4. triplejazzm51 (276) | 3 months ago | Youre right msfrancisco, it would be difficult to celebrate Christmas while most of our fellowmen have nothing to spend, they dont even have a house. Well, i would like to share with you some ways to celebrate Christmas. Recycle your Christmas decorations. Wealthy ones fill their house with lights and decorations but we dont have to do that. Its a fire hazzard isnt it. Prepare simple dishes (food) only enough for the whole family. On Christmas day, go to church and go to the mall to watch a movie or treat the kids to the rides. Thats all.

msfrancisco9369 (2136) | 3 months ago | You're right Tripplejazz. I am into recycling our old christmas decor. I am not considering buying new stuff to decorate our house this year. We're going to my mom's place to commemorate my dad's first year death anniversary--our second christmas without him. Yes, it will be a solemn christmas celebration for the family this year. Thanks for your kind suggestions.

7. randylovesdar (712) | 1 month ago | I will be making home made gift baskets for a lot of my family members. I will also be painting ceramic ornaments and ceramic houses (you can get these cheap at Michaels or JoAnns). I bought my niece and nephews books from Barnes and Nobel. I am not sure what to get my hubby since he has not given me any ideas as to what he wants. I have recipes for cookies, bread, fudge and candy (these are easy to follow and you do not need do too many ingredients).
