How Many of You Have or Know Someone Who's Been Laid Off From Their Job? |
|
Times are getting so hard now and so many people are losing jobs that they thought they would be with till retirement. My husband lost his job the first time 3 years ago when the factory shut down. He found another one pretty quick that time and was with them almost 3 years and bam. Laid off! Only this time around there are hardly any companies hiring. He finally found a job through a temp service but with a HUGE pay cut. Right now we are barely making it, I do work full time and make that little extra on line, where I used to save it for things I want now I buy food. Have any of you been through this or do you know someone who has? Have you changed your spending habits and taken your extra income to start helping pay the bills? Hopefully things will get better soon and the economy will pick back up. Til then we just keep hanging on.

kittenclaus (377) | 1 month ago | You are 62 years young, my friend. I'll pray for you just don't give up! I'm sure there are many companies when they do start hiring again that would love to have an employee with your time in and dedication. It's so sad that so many people are having to go through this. Hang in there!

kittenclaus (377) | 1 month ago | Oh my, the auto industry! Steve was in the same boat. He was working for a company that made batteries. I think many of the job losses began with the auto industry and then just kept going down the list. Keep those contacts of yours close and hopefully one will pay off. Please let me know how things are going. I always think encouragement from friends help alot during rough times. I'm gonna request a freindship and I hope you'll accept. Keep your head up, eyes open and look to the future. Things WILL get better for us all.

My dad is in the same kinda boat - he was a forklift operator in the steel industry for 35 years and got laid off. Because we get all of our steel from China now! It's incredibly difficult for anyone over 55 to get a job these days!

2. 3r7sweetie (812) | 1 month ago | I was one of the many people who were laid off from their jobs. I got the axe last January of 2009 and it really was a painful experience. I cried and was desperate at finding another job. Luckily, I received an offer for an online writing job at the start of February and things got better after that. I realized that indeed, when God closes a door He also opens a window. I have received a number of job offers after that, although I am still looking for a job which can really provide me with financial security.

kittenclaus (377) | 1 month ago | I'm so happy that God blessed you in finding something to help pull you through. I so agree with your response about the financial security. That's what we're facing. Although Steve was lucky enough to find the temp work at this time there is no offer of a permanant position with the company. I'm only hoping that with time he'll be able to find another job that will last and at a pay that is more equal to what he was making before. I understand exactly how you felt when you got the news. When Steve came home and told me I went from anger to tears to depression. Thank God I'm a very optimistic person so it wasn't long before I started believing that somehow everything would work out. I hope that you too will get some wonderful news that a company wants to hire you full time. Thank you for your response and I wish you all the luck!

| 3. robbinredmon (49) | 1 month ago | I know several people who have been laid off including myself. It has been hard for me as well as for those that I know but I am keeping the faith that the economy will get better. I've had to change my way of living to just maintain paying bills. Others that I know have been on jobs for ever and thought that they would retire from those jobs but where unfortunatley laid off.

kittenclaus (377) | 1 month ago | We have to believe that times will improve. I was used to seeing something I wanted in the store's and just buying it. Now I don't even like to go shopping anymore, too depressing. My biggest fear is not being able to pay our mortgage. It's so high and when we first got it things were so much better. I see all the time how people are losing their homes due to no fault of their own and it really scares me. Now our heat pump went out and it's starting to get cold. trying to figure out how to pay for that. It seems like it's just one thing after another doesn't it. Good luck to you, I'll pray for you and for all the other's in this same boat. Please do the same.

5. sallysue (196) | 1 month ago | Hi: I had a fantastic job in the health field, but unfortunately the company I worked for went bankrupt. I've been unemployed for a year now and it's tough going. I looked everywhere for a job with no luck. People don't tend to hire folks over fourty so I don't know really what to do. I've been looking for a legitimate job I can do on the computer no luck there. Sometimes I get really scared and just pray, it makes me feel better. I really hope your situation turns around I'm sure there's plenty of people in the same shoes out there

| 6. MundaneChaos (4) | 1 month ago | I lost my job on October 30th, 2008. I was working at a call center that I hated, but I knew I had to try and keep my job because the economy was getting worse and worse as the days went on. I wasn't laid off due to lack of work, I was fired because of a misunderstanding. Luckily for me, I kept every e-mail I sent to management (there were 14 in total), every e-mail they sent me in reply so the state was able to do the right thing and deem it an unjust termination. I've been collecting unemployment and looking for jobs and trying to get funding to go back to school.
I've never been one to save a lot of money in the past. I always would get paid and go buy shoes or some kind of electronics or DVD or something on iTunes. I've made 10 years of poor financial decisions.
Since being unemployed, I've been keeping every dime I make. I've also had to file bankruptcy. I hope the ecoomy picks up

| 8. AndieBee (21) | 1 month ago | Hello kittenclaus, I lost my job at the end of June this year. The company I worked for closed the doors of its call center abruptly. I am collecting unemployment but it's $275 per week less than what I was earning. My husband works full time for a trucking company, but his earnings don't seem to be what they should be either. I'm a pin keep artist which brings in a little-not nearly enough to really even help. I'm looking for work daily, but like so many others, there seems to be nothing out there for me. I'm 42, a military veteran, and have over 20 years experience in admin/clerical/customer service. I've worked for my court district's prosecuting attorney, different call centers, even been a waitress. I believe part of what's blocking me is a lack of formal education. But I don't qualify for federal financial aid due to a poor decision in my youth. I DID qualify for a little food stamp assistance. We're behind on every bill we have and I honestly don't know how we'll get caught up. I just keep praying this whole mess will turn around for all of us!

9. EnglishTeaDuck (725) | 1 month ago | I've been laid off since February, when my work place closed. I am lucky in a sense as I previously worked as an actor, thats my training, so I have that sort of 'self employed' mindset anyway, having done a job where you EXPECT to be unemployed half the time! So I am looking into creative ways of earning as well as 'normal' jobs. But still, at this point in my life I am in a different situation and I need a regular paycheck and so I am looking, and on unemployment right now.
