Weird problem...  | |  Sometimes when I am on the internet (AOL), Internet Explorer will open up (on its own) with one tab after another of the same page over and over. Then one after another Internet Explorer page will open up with tab after tab of the same page. I don't know why this happens and it locks up my computer. The only way to stop it is to Alt-Ctrl-Delete and close AOL. This has happened on two of my computers-- the exact same problem. On one I have Windows XP and AOL 9.0. On the other computer I have Windows Vista and AOL 9.1. Does anyone know what causes this problem?

It is whatever webpage is open at the time on either computer. I think it happens when I have multiple pages loading at a time, thus slowing and/or locking up my computer. I have dial-up, so my connection is slow. | |

| | | 2. khian545 (27) | 1 month ago |  The first question is, do you have an up-to-date antivirus or antispyware?,, case1: my suspicion here is that if you were using an AOL installer that has been infected by a virus or spyware then when you installed it the virus in it infects your browser like internet explorer that causes the browser to pop up again and again..., case2: if your AOL is a preinstalled program to your operating system and you did not installed it, you may try reinstalling your AOL.., what is important here is that you should have an up-to-date antivirus or antispyware. It also locks up your computer because each time that the browser opens a tab, it consumes your memory usage. When the time comes that the memory cannot handle it then lock ups will occur.

| rodsdman (120) | 1 month ago | all good points. So the next step should be to do a virus scan, make sure all the options are on so it checks the boot sector and even trusted programs. If the virus is hiding itself in the AOL directory the scan may not find it if you dont check all. Then try reinstalling the AOL software. Did you try doing a restore on either machine to see if it was something that got installed (virus). | |

And second, I suggest that maybe you should use another internet browser instead of IE. Using firefox is a good idea to avoid this situation.
