My friend has swine flu, should I still visit? |
|
Decided to visit my best friend whose away at college even though the plane ticket costs a lot. But then he tells me he's just recovering from swine flu. I know not everyone dies from it but old people and kids are at higher risk so what if he gives it to me and I pass it to my grandparents or cousins? I still want to see him..

3. getbrowser (1430) | 4 weeks ago | You should keep away from your friend if you want to be healthy still.
Of course, now that your friend have had swine flu, he should not go to public gatherings until he has had no fever and taken no fever-reducing medication for 24 hours. So, you can wait for another several days until he has revovered from swine flu, then you can visit him.
It is a risky undertaking to visit him when he is just recovering from swine flu.

4. charblaize (379) | 4 weeks ago | If it has been about a week, then I would still go ahead and visit with him. Just because everyone is worried about the swine flu, if you visit him or not, you still have a risk of catching it. Not everyone will get the "swine" but some will have the regular flu also. In my area, if one has the "swine" they are usually hospitalized for a week, getting the antibiotics, quaratined and then released into public/family after a week if they are recouperating. As long as he doesn't have a fever, it will not be contagious. Take precaution, wash your hands, santize them if you can't wash with soap and water, don't eat or drink after him and take care of yourself. Ask him if anyone else in his family has had it or sick also. Just like the other one said, you don't know if anyone on the plane is sick, in the airport, or just down the road at your gas station. You just don't know, but have fun and be cautious.

6. echomonster (2677) | 4 weeks ago | If he's really recovering, it probably won't be so risky to go, but there's nothing wrong to play it safe either. It's not true that swine flu is more risky for older folks. That's true for the regular flu, but the swine flu is much more dangerous for children, young people, and most especially pregnant women. You yourself would probably be at more risk than your grandparents, depending on their age!

7. randylovesdar (497) | 3 weeks ago | I would buy a mask and wear it on the plane. Is it possible to get the Swine Flu shot before you leave. I know it is not available in all areas. If he has already had the Swine Flu more than likely he is no longer contageous provided that he has no fever. I would go if I were you and have a great time.
