New news, newsworthy, and where is all of the good news?

Every single day at 5,6, and 7 am. 10 am, 11am, noon report. 4pm, 5pm, 6pm, 10pm, 11pm, and If you managed to miss the news at one of these times they re-broadcast the late news at intervals in the late nights and early mornings. What is this obsession for information that modern people have? Why do people want to fill their minds and homes with an endless litany of woes, trajedies, and barely concealed mayhem which occurs on a daily basis. It is rare not only for news to offer you news that has anything to do with you, your family, or anyone that you know, it is equally as rare that the talking heads on TV ever find a story of something positive and of benefit to a community to tell people about to try and lighten up the endless dirge of horror that they carry full blown into your living room, your conciousnessm and the minds of everyone in your household.
I am sure that there is a lighter side of the news that never gets air time over the horror show type images and stories which comprise our dosage of news. However the good news, the positive stories which give people a taste of hope and optomism are not the kinds of stories that contain conflict and controversy which is the very bread and butter of a journalists reporting. Nice stories don't require follow ups or breaking news bulletin opportunities. Would you like to see the journalistic community focusing more of their attention on positive and upbeat stories that inspire you? Or are you happy with the news just the way it is?

It all can not be separated from the commercial side which became goal sought the agency or media company.
If you are looking for positive news is only and without dramatize the news, of course, they not can get are economic value from news which they publish. Despite the positive news also contains economic side but it's usually behind it any there "sponsor".
for me, positive or not a news, not be problem. And I happy for all news

I think that you both may be right to a degree. However there are more positive things going on in most communities than are reported. They could give us heads up on large church events like potluck dinners and getting to know your neighbors social events. There is all kinds of news that would serve to give people more of a sense of community and fellowship rather than rehashing horror after horror to titillate and scare people.

Hi advokatfu: i agree with you, every news channel has it's own political /economic interests but i think at the same time that it must be more than that. People that informs us have a responsability with us, the should not do their job only based on these interests. Maybe i'm very idealist, but i think that, whene a person decides to be a journalist they want to help people with their own job and not only to win their money selling news as this were anothere product. Thanks for your answer.

We have a bunch of different news broadcasts in our area and then there is another broadcaster just for my local city, he does news just from our city. I will watch this for news more than I watch the other news just because it is more local for me but he is only on during the week and he comes on once every half hour from the hours of 5 am to 8 am. I don't know why they show news so often and I agree all it is is tragedies and never focused on the good. I enjoy watching the Today Show just because it gives me a taste of my local news when it switched over but i also get a really nice amount of good news.

The today show is one of the few programs that is about current events and tresnds and such which manages to stay upbeat and fresh. They have been on for such a long time! Kathy Lee and Hoda though don't really seem to mesh well though. They are always talking over each other and when they get excited and go off, whatch out then! They get dingy.

Well, I don't watch ANY TV so I am not bombarded with news. I do hear the news from the kitchen as I'm preparing dinner, and that is enough to keep me up to date. Only occasionally do I want to know more, and I can rely on my hubby to let me know of anything which might demand attention. I believe our news and current affairs shows here in Aus do show SOME good news, but not much. Even if they had a good news channel I doubt I would watch it.

there is not enough passion and drama in reporting good new. The talking heads on tv seem to be intentionally dramatizing the stories that they read to give them more "life" and "character" the news already has charachter it seems to me it was the first reality show. You can't get more real than documenting and reporting peoples personal tragedies.

I get most of my news right here off of my lot. I check into the stories that interest me and leave all of the rest. I gotta say, it is refreshing to take in the news at ones own pace, or not if one chooses. I hate having the news shoveled at me wholesale. The local news much like the national news, does not really change my daily life, nor do policies in Washington. They may change it in a matter of a few years, and by then I am sure that all of the information I need to know will have filtered down even to me.

I can't stand the news of today. It is all about the horror stories of the world, states, cities, and towns. There maybe one good story throughout a newscast. I find it so sad and scary. I don't remember it being so bad when I was growing up. Especially the constant stories of women or little girls being kidnapped, raped and or murdered. I believe its time to change the news format.

I know that the litany of gloom and doom is depressing and scary, but in all that gloom and doom there is informtaion that people generally genuinely need. Like if there was a serial rapist or an escaped convict loose in your neighborhood or last spotted there earlier in the day. I can see that as news that is good to know. ot when news happens to someone that you know it is good that you find out so that you can get in contact with them or try to help or comfort them. There is a reason for reporti9ng all the bad news.It just seems as though there is no good news.
