Your friend needs a blog. Then he or she could use affiliate marketing techniques to sell music. Some small record stores also sell CDs and so forth on ebay and Amazon. This person can also make money selling music by local bands on consignment. There are many things that can be done.

What the poster above said is all great, flyers and such would be extremely useful. But one way that you and your friend could utilize the internet in a free way is through the use of Myspace and Facebook, you can target people in your area to friend request them, and send them out bulletins, messages, and create your page promoting the record store.
