My sister is going into rehab again.... |
|
My sister is going into drug rehab again for the 7th time in 8 years. I really have never been close with her we are 7 years apart in age, and to be honest what goes on her life really doesnt affect me. She has caused so many problems for my parents I cant bear to watch them support her financially anymore and put up with all of her drama. Is this mean of me?

She is your parents child, they don't want to turn their backs on her. My husband had an addiction and I know first hand what a horrible, horrible toll it has on a family. Try and see things through your sisters eyes. 9 out of 10 times a drug addict is replacing something in their life with this. I would honestly sit down and talk with my sister, someday may be too late: my husband was found dead by her daughters.

I grew tired of watching my mother pamper her and allow her to get away with the most terrible things simply because she has a drug problem. I felt resentful.... VERY resentful that I was neglected due to my sister's terrible choices in life.
So... no, I do not find that you are being mean at all. It is hard to put yourself in their shoes and to understand what the whole thing is about. Yet, you are glad that you are not in her shoes and could more than likely care less about understanding.
There comes a time when people need to stand on their own feet and quit leaning on others all the time.

4. muscles4me (8500) | 7 days ago | Your parents might be causing more harm than good by enaling her. An addict learns all to tools of recovery the first time in treatment. Some leave treatment and never drink or use a drug again but they are few and far between compared to the many that relapse and drink or use a drug again. If they do drink or drug they can always just try again by stopping but all they need to know about rheir disease they have already learned and its sensless to go to rehab again PLUS being very costly. Of course depending on how much or how long they used after the first clean up they may need medical help to derox. Good luck to you.
