Jane Doe Found: Missing Since 1954 |
|
When you imagine an earlier time you tend to not imagine crime, or any vile acts. Atleast, I know I don't. The 1950's, I was always so sure were peaceful times, everyone friendly and no hostility... Well The article I just recently read changes my mind on that.

2. cynthiann (3074) | 1 month ago | Regretfully, I could not find this article, It said that the page had expired etc. So am unable to read it or make a comment. I think that evil has always existed and brutal killings did take place (but not in the same numbers as today)but there wasn't instant communication of news - not like we have now. We are so much more aware in this age. I would have liked to have seen this article.

SomeCowgirl (8146) | 1 month ago | Cynthiann and deebomb,
Cynthiann I am sorry that the article did not work but I must think deebomb as I looked through said article link she provided and see that it is about the same woman. More was provided in this article then in my own, though I didn't read the article link deebomb provided in full I can tell more is said about the lady who stumbled across the grave site. I don't believe my article mentioned anything about the body being found in a different place then the lady was from.
It is very sad that such crimes take place, and I do agree that while they didn't seem to be as vicious it doesn't mean that said crimes weren't committed, and while the volume wasn't the same, a crime is a crime and it's sad no matter what!

3. lelin1123 (4390) | 1 month ago | I read the story and its a real shame that this happened back then and the family didn't know for so many years. I know there have been many crimes committed over the years. From murder, robbery, rapes. However, I believe at this time it has become an epedimic of crimes being committed on girls and women of all ages. It is out of control. I don't believe because of the internet and other communication that its just as bad as back in the 50's. I know there was crime happening back then but not to the extent that it is happening today. Look at one register rapist in Cleveland, Ohio they have since found 10 dead bodies in his house. I'm sure they are all females. The other crime that has become rapant are crimes that parents are committing on their precious children. I don't think that happened back in the day like it has happened in the past decade. I have to say I shed tears at least once a week over another child kidnapped or found dead. This continues to happen and nothing is being done to prevent it from happening again. Animals who have been convicted of hurting a child should not be allowed to walk the streets of America. They need to be either put in jail for life or put to death. They will for the most part repeat their crimes and usually worse then before.

SomeCowgirl (8146) | 1 month ago | Finding out that such a crime was committed in the fifties is a real eye opener. We wouldn't think that such would have occurred, though I am sure that more like this may have occurred in the fifites that we aren't aware of. It seems to me that I saw a unsolved mysteries of a singer back in the fifties being murdered or what may have been a suicide.
Nonetheless, whether it have occurred decades past, or in this year, it's still very sad. Things should be done to stop these creeps. Though to be honest, I can't see how it's not much easier to be kind and loving then rude, mean, and hurtful... It's much easier to be kind, as kindness is said to kill... Though I hope everyone understand that the saying "kindness kills" means that kindness can mellow a hard heart!
Things do need to be done though I don't believe killing the murderer is the option... that is to say that by doing that it's sinking to his level. Possibly locking him up and throwing away the key or getting him the help he needs, with religious help if he requires it or needs it/ wants it would be great. Though I say he, I must realize that women are also capable of such cruel and heinous acts, though sad that it is.

AJ1952Chats (1129) | 1 month ago | It was good that the last contact she had with her family was a good one--sharing some of her earnings and leaving a loving note--and it's too bad that it ended this way. When I first saw your invitation to look up this article, I had hoped to find where somebody had amnesia or, for whatever reason, just didn't want to continue as part of her family until recently. I was hoping for a happy reunion.
She was only 18 then and--in spite of the deviant person who killed her--lived in a more carefree world.
This morning on the CBS Early Show, the time machine segment was featuring the year 1954 when this happened.
Of course, even back then had its down side such as McCarthy-ism and segregation.
I wondered what those school kids (the ones getting integrated into what had been an all-white school) would have thought had they been able to look into our time and see somebody who looked like them in The White House.

SomeCowgirl (8146) | 1 month ago | Deebomb, yes it is very very sad that it happened the way it did, though it seems that many of her family members are up in heaven with her now, so that they have been reunited!

SomeCowgirl (8146) | 1 month ago | AJ1952chats - It seems you commented instead of responded, woops. Though it showed up in my inbox either way as a response, so I suppose it doesn't really matter. Yes I saw said segment, I believe the same day I made this discussion. It is very sad to hear that the woman had died and that it wasn't a reunion, but as it is, I am sure the remaining family is relieved to now know... and those up there in heaven with her, are now with her and know the whole story.
