I have searched but have found only one (downloadable from a number of sites). It appears to be shareware but the price isn't quoted. The site given as the 'Home Page' doesn't mention it at all (though links to a screenshot and the software itself do work).

Proper allergy testing is a very complicated and rather slow process which should be done by a professionally trained person. It's not really the sort of thing one can easily do oneself (except for a product such as a hair dye when it's essential to test one's reaction to a dye at least 48 hours before using it.)

First of all one needs a good database of known allergens. This one seems to be one of the best but, since the search field is by allergen, it may not be as easy to use as it might be if you are trying to identify what it is you are allergic to!

Informall: http://foodallergens.ifr.ac.uk/

Obviously,
, to conduct a test, it would take an incredibly long time to test every allergen one by one. Tests are usually conducted as 'patch tests' where forty or so common allergens are arranged in a grid on a quite large adhesive patch. This is applied to the skin (usually the back) and left in position for a few days. Any allergic reaction can then usually be seen by a reddening of the skin in that position. The test may need to be carried out more than once.

The site I mentioned above is: http://www.alergytreatment.com/index.htm .

I have looked through the site and it doesn't seem to be very professionally written. It looks very much like the kind of site that has been compiled by an amateur from information found on the Internet or in books. It does seem to be quite comprehensive in listing various common allergens and it might be useful in conjunction with the database mentioned.

The software can be found here (amongst other places): http://alergy-testing-sof... appears to download OK (as alergytest.exe) and doesn't contain a virus (according to Avast). Running it (in Vista), however, seems to do nothing. It says it has installed but it doesn't appear in All Programs, is not listed as a folder in Program Files and doesn't appear in the list of programs that can be uninstalled! As a result, I was unable to see how it works or whether it's any use at all!

Unfortunately, two of the links have been messed up by MyLot and will probably give a 404 error when you click on them. The solution is to edit the bad link in the address bar by removing anything after the '.htm' and then pressing Enter.

The correct links are:
