Seasonal Mood Swings...

i find that there is such a build up to christmas and expectations are so big that there is always bound to be some sort of letdown after the holidays are over. i try not to set up myself like this but it often happens.

Yes, I get two days paid holiday from my employer.

Christmas is thrown in our faces far too early, every year it gets earlier. Adverts are on Television in early October, people decorate their houses in early November and shops try to pressure us by having their Christmas displays on show months before Christmas. I think the magic has been lost because of this, we feel pressured to spend spend spend and the meaning of Christmas is forgotten. I like to see children excited about Father Christmas and see their faces when they open their presents but apart from that I've usually had enough of Christmas well before it arrives. We're hardly in to winter yet and people are obsessed by Christmas already. I'd rather just wait until we're in to December then start to prepare.

I too am not really looking forward to Christmas. It used to be a happy time for me, but now it is just a reminder of how sad I really am. Don't get me wrong, I do have a family, and I try to be happy for them, but there are a lot of complications which make it really sad for me. I live one day at a time and I am just hoping that I could get through this Christmas season.

To be honest, I actually do like Christmas. Oh, believe me, my family is far from perfect but I do enjoy the holiday> For one thing, it is one of the only times of the year (Except for Easter and Thanksgiving) when I see my uncle and three cousins, who live five hours away. I LOVE my cousins, and I love seeing them, so I look forward to Christmas. There are always family squabbles, but its so nice to be around the table enjoying Christmas dinner with my cousins, it is like nonstop comedy hour because they are so witty. I look forward to Christmas all year.

The months I really hate are the endless winter months AFTER Christmas- January and February, and yes, I hate Valentine's Day. But Christmas is ok.

BTW, if you want to avoid those crowded stores and commercialism and all the stress of shopping, do what I do. Buy all your Christmas presents online. I buy people books, cds and movies on Amazon, and do my shopping in one day. I can even have the stuff gift wrapped. It really takes away the stress.

I enjoy shopping for the kids, but other than that, I could shine the whole thing, really I could.

yeah it's that time. we had chrissy stuff out during i think mid oct to now, i'll be a bit fed up with it soon. don't know what we're getting family, let alone my son. then you end up with easter out as soon as they take down christmas.
all i know at the moment is i'm working, that's as far as plans have gotten.

You know what my friend, how hard he tries or pretends to look happy he still is as lonely as anyone deep down inside.

It must be depressing when you cannot cherish the moments with some one close to you, but have you ever considered to do something unusual during the holidays, maybe go somewhere where Christmas isn't that popular, or maybe spending the time with children whom you are not even remotely related. Better if you just pamper yourself and indulge yourself into something which you always wanted to do when you were a child but just couldn't do because of one reason or the other.

I hope you appreciate that I'm only responding as it's you Jelly. I am already sick to death of discussions about xmas which started in bloody October.

Christmas is a non event in Greece, it is only one day, and it's only with the advent of ex pats that xmas cards are ever seen. The taverna will have a half heated attempt to throw a bit of tinsel around for the foreigners and that is it.

I know that we had face many problems, struggles and consequence in our life this year. But we should not forget the spirit of Christmas its not about us,its not about for children, for gifts for the young at heart but we are celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.
