My cats been acting strangely...  |

 My cat is a year old and he has his own routine. He goes out in the morning then comes in at regular intervals. But over the last couple of days he has been disappearing for the whole day. Then when he comes in he keeps meowing and won't leave me alone for 5 minutes. He has also not been eating as much as normal,
He doesn't seem ill other than his odd behaviour and he's definately not in any pain. Maybe he could be a little spooked by the fireworks going off at the moment around us. I'm not sure.
Just wondered if anyone else has ever experienced their cat acting strangely and if they knew what it could be?
If he doesn't start eating more in the next day or so I think I will have to take him to the vet for a check up.

If he hadn't eaten at all I would have had him checked already, but he is eating just a very small amount at a time | |

2.  rodsdman (122) | 4 weeks ago |  Being that he is about a year old, he may be getting into some more defined hunting. My cat use to spend the entire day hunting. She would be gone all day, and when she came home she was looking for attention. If she was successful in the hunt then she was not hungry, if not she was starving. Has he left any 'presents' for you?

I didn't think that they actually ate them though just killed them and brought them back as a gift, yuk. Maybe you could be right. He loves hunting.

When he returned, he acted like a guilty husband by smothering me with attention. I almost never figured it out until he started bringing me little "gifts". Then I decided that he was a "mouser" & out hunting all day. No wonder he wasn't hungry when he got home. He was eating part of his prey & sharing what he didn't want with me. The next visit to the vet, I verified that that was probably the case as the vet said he was strong & healthy. So, I did ALL my worrying for what you could say was nothing!!! He lived to be 10 years old

I've also decided the fireworks going off in the evening around me may have spooked him a little so he's probably looking for reassurance from me that everything is ok. | |

I had a cat that would disappear for hours at a time and come home late in the evening...loving the daylights out of me, but not wanting to eat much. After a little detective work I found that he was going to visit an elderly lady down the block. He would arrive there, literally knock on the door, and she would let him in. I saw through the window that the first thing that she did for the "poor kitty" was give him a dish of milk and some salmon from a can. After he ate, the two of them sat down in a chair and she brushed him and petted him while he laid on her lap in total contentment. I had lucked out on my "Colombo quest" as there was a bench across the street from her apartment and she lived on the ground floor with a big picture window facing the street.
I will say that taking him to the vet for a checkup is an excellent idea, as you might not be as lucky as I was with my wanderer.

Fireworks have been going off the last night or so near me and I think he has been a little spooked by it. He seems a lot better today, but if he is still off on Monday when the vet opens I will take him just in case. | |
