Messages left for other people when you live alone

I have been ignoring these, unless I get repeated attempts. A message is left, most irritating are those for an individual with the same last name (mine is almost as popular as "Smith", but most perplexing are those with absolutely no connection) - They are asking for this person to call back. Well, I'm not that person, I don't call back. If that particular company keeps calling and calling, after a dozen or two I would call and inform them that they have a wrong number. It is coming into my consciousness however, that maybe I should call after the second message. Ethically speaking, since they are making this effort. What do you think is the proper thing to do?
