Treatment for addiction

Well how can some one go about persuading a person whom has already refuse an inhouse treatment facility? That is the problem. They say they will do anything except go inhouse.

If they refuse to go to a residential unit there is nothing you can do.

The next option would be any of the community based programmes and that is actually the way I am going at the moment and it is working well for me.

Do these remedies also work on alcohol. I know a couple of people who have relapsed with alcohol after years of sobriety. They do not get drunk but just drink a couple of days a week but get so full of remorse after a night of a few drinks the next day its difficult for them to be out of depression.

An overall change in diet and the use of nutritional supplements are very beneficial to people dealing with any type of addiction. Thanks Ebony. I was wondoring if there are any that help with the cravings. there are many day when I have alittle pain or can not sleep that my brain trys to talk me into getting up and getting dressed and going out for some alcohol. I don't but I sure feel like it.

Sure Muscles4me, what you need to be aware of is the type of sugar you are putting in your body as you might be suffering from low blood sugar levels. If you eat alot of processed food and sweets you are robbing yourself of the proper nutrients to keep you sugar levels balanced, therefore suffering with cravings. You need to eliminate or minimize things made with white flour, white sugar, also potatoes, white rice, etc. If you must have something sweet have fruit instead. Eat more grains such as whole wheat bread, brown rice, rolled oats and substitute sugar in your coffee or tea with honey or raw sugar. Just make sure you stay away from artificial sweeteners and fruit juices, drink green tea and drink more water. Herbal Supplements that might help are St. John's Wort and Milk Thistle. Since I am not a doctor this is just my personal opinion after working personally with close friends and family members suffering from addiction as well as my personal research when I worked in a drug and alcohol treatment centre as an intake counsellor, I was always looking for alternative remedies so people did not get addicted to the prescription drugs. The most important thing is to not let prescription drugs be a crutch since they do not treat the underlying causes of the addiction. You must learn to restore you health so you are no longer dependent on any type of stimulant. I know you will notice the difference in your overall well being when you make these dietary changes. Talk to your doctor to make sure that these herbal remedies do not interfere with any medications you are taking and also talk to someone in a health food store so they can inform you of some other good herbal supplements that could be affective in treating your cravings. Sorry for this late comment I'm not around as much as normal at the moment.

I had no DTs as coming off coke isn't the same as drugs like heroin and nowhere near the DTs suffered by alcoholics.

I had bad facial pain and a few other problems but that was about it.
The hard part is beating the psycological side of addiction in my opinion.

By far the worst drug to detox from is alcohol as it is the only drug where the actual detox process can be fatal.

Rake care of yourself mike. I had problems with alcohol but lucky for me I never got into drugs for the simple reason I was too big of a chicken and afraid the cops would catch me and throw me in jail.
