I've started thinking about what movies I am going to get my three year old for Christmas (excuse me for mentioning a religious holiday, if you don't celebrate Christmas). I started to think about the movies out today and although there are some good ones for her age, I started to think when I was young, and what movies I absolutely adored. There were SO many favorites that I want to get her.

My faves include:
Sleeping Beauty
Cinderella
Sword in the Stone
The Rescuers Down Under
The Little Mermaid
Snow White
Beauty and the Beast

There's so many more... what are your faves?

Oh my gosh, you and I have the same favorites! Those are some of my childhood faves! Oh, include Bambi, too! There are so many that the list goes on. I love animated films and it's hard to choose when Disney has so many of them.

swilbur85 (15)   ranked 7,468 out of 11,297 in watching movies  2 weeks ago

OH, yes! I have not seen Bambi in FOREVER!!! I DO love that one as well.. I remember crying everytime Bambi's mother passed away!! SO sad, but other than that, I remember the skunk named "Flower" and that's it! I barely remember what its about! Good call, I need to get that one just so I can watch it again. BTW-- I'm 24, and another reason I wanted my daughter to see what I saw, is so that I can watch these greats again!:) Thanks!

You're older than I am by a year. LOL, Bambi, yes, I remember how emotional I used to get when Bambi's Mom died. Kinda like when Simba lost his Father in the Lion King. I think your daughter would enjoy those animated films just as we have growing up.

Alice in Wonderland, and The Jungle Book.

Oh and Pinocchio, I love the part when they force him to drink booze and smoke cigars hahaha.

swilbur85 (15)   ranked 7,468 out of 11,297 in watching movies  2 weeks ago

Oh yeah! That Jungle Book was great! You're gonna think I'm crazy, but my family growing up never had bought me the Alice in Wonderland movie. I know I have seen it at least once in my life, but I really don't remember it too much! The Jungle Book was great too! "Bear Neccessities" is a GREAT song and it gets stuck in your head!

Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin were my two favorites. Toy Story and A Bug's Life are included in my favorites and they are part Disney!:) Oliver and Company is another good one.

swilbur85 (15)   ranked 7,468 out of 11,297 in watching movies  2 weeks ago

Hello HansonFan!! Great of you to comment!

Beauty and the Beast... I LOVE the town scene where Belle is singing about the townspeople! I actually haven't watched this in forever! It will bring back a lot or great memories and feelings. Aladdin! I almost forgot how much I loved this too! I remember seeing Oliver and Company and I also faintly remember when McDonalds had the Oliver and company toys in the kids meals! Crazy, huh?! lol

Thanks for adding to the conversation.

This takes me back to my childhood and I remember all the old Disney movies I used to watch when I was a kid,and me and my wife have a small collection of most of the movies I used to watch and when it comes to my favorites I would have to say Lion King,Lion King 2 Simbas Pride,The Little Mermaid,Aladdin,Toy Story,Toy Story 2,and Beauty and the Beast as well as many others that I miss watching and maybe me and my wife will be able to watch some of them, and I know when we have kids we will have them watch all the classic Disney movies because they will always be good, and nothing will ever beat the classics not even the newer Disney movies, and Walt Disney was a genius for creating Mickey Mouse all those years ago.

swilbur85 (15)   ranked 7,468 out of 11,297 in watching movies  2 weeks ago

Yes, I know, it takes me back as well! There is NOTHING out there like the Disney Classics. They just have a sort of feel to them that will never be recreated. I know that when I have all of these movies again, it won't only be for my daughter, but it will be for me as well! I've already got Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Lion King, and Sword in the Stone, and I absolutely LOVE to watch these with her! I know I'll enjoy watching the others that I haven't seen in years!

Yeah when we have kids the movies will not only be for them but for us as well since we are kids at heart and we always will be,and I wish that they still made the classic Disney movies.

Why are you guys so focused on the animated movies?!?! lol. True classics that everyone has mentioned. I LOVE Fantasia. A masterpiece for it's time and still holds up today. I'm also a huge fan of Beauty & The Beast and can sing the entire opening number! lol. 101 Dalmations. The Fox and the Hound. Other animated favs. Then there are all the Herbie movies, Escape to Witch Mountain, Freaky Friday, The Parent Trap, Treasure Island. All the original films, mind you, not the remakes! When I was a kid, every Sunday night was Disney movie night at our house. It was the wholesome family thing to do. I could go on and on but I'll give somebody else a chance to list their favorites!

swilbur85 (15)   ranked 7,468 out of 11,297 in watching movies  2 weeks ago

Ahhhh, yes, well when I think Disney classics, animation just pops in my mind. But you are exactly right! I absolutely loved The Parent Trap... the original movie, anyways. Great comment to add to this discussion! I would like to say, also, that I was born in 1985, so the animated movies were mostly what came out when I was young. I remember when Aladdin first came out and when The Lion King and others first came out too...

I can't believe I forgot to mention what I consider to be one of the greatest Disney classics of all time!!!! Mary Poppins!

if you want ones good for Christmas, the Muppets Christmas Carol is wonderful. and also, although she's probably still a bit young for it, The Nightmare Before Christmas is wonderful too. yeah, the characters are a bit spooky, but it's a lovely, snuggly feeling Christmas feel good film.

if you can get hold of the original version of The Incredible Journey, that's wonderful, although I'm always bawling at the final scene.

and Lilo and Stitch! one of the best of the more recent Disney films, it's just gorgeous. and with such a good, lovely, happy, positive message to it. and the lead female being, not a princess, but an ordinary, and rather strange, little girl. which I think is much easier to relate to. in fact, I was very like Lilo as a small child. a bit mopey, a bit morbid, but full of love.

swilbur85 (15)   ranked 7,468 out of 11,297 in watching movies  2 weeks ago

ahhh, yes! The Nightmare Before Christmas, I think she will, indeed, enjoy. She has watched The Corpse Bride many times, so I don't think she will be scared. I've never heard of The Incredible Journey, I'll have to look that one up! I have also seen Lilo and Stitch, I do love that movie, as well! Great suggestions, thanks!

myLot reputation of 85/100. Galena (4031)   ranked 151 out of 11,297 in watching movies  2 weeks ago

brilliant:D

if she loves the corpse bride, she'll definitely like it, I reckon.

and maybe, although not disney, Coraline. although even I found it a bit scary, but it's in that wonderful vein of spooky wierdness, it's a great film

again not disney, but I like those sort of films, and grew up watching Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal near continually, so more great films for children with a bit of spookiness in their soul. (seriously, how else to describe it. last time I watched Nightmare, I watched the extra about the haunted mansion ride being done of Nightmare style for Christmas, and it was so beautiful it made me cry. I'm an oddball)

The Incredible Journey is about two dogs and a cat making their way back home across the countryside. it's lovely. really charming. but the end makes me cry. in a happy rather than sad way.

oh, and another non disney, The Last Unicorn is utterly beautiful
