Did you ever have braces or did your children?

I had braces when I was 12 I remember my parents paid $50 a month. My daughter already had braces and has to get them again and they will cost $3900 and if we finance it after putting $500 down it will cost around $300 per month. That's crazy. Did you have braces? Did your kids have braces? How much did it cost?

I never did get braces but I was told that I should get them at some point in my life. I was never pushed and I'm kind of OK with how my teeth look right now. I'm thinking that I may end up getting invisalign for my teeth. I'd prefer those over braces any day. I know they're kind of expensive but not painful and a lot less upkeep.

I am hoping we can do that for my son, his teeth are not that bad.

I did have braces when I was younger. I don't know how much they cost, but I assume it is nothing as compared to today. My oldest son has braces right now. We had $1500 of insurance and out of pocket was around $2500. Our youngest son is getting braces next week! Again, we have the $1500 of insurance and his is around $2300 out of pocket. It is truly ridiculous! I wonder how much of it is pure profit.

Probably a really good percentage is profit, the braces themselves are nothing really but little tiny pieces of plastic and wires. Our orthodontist has like a million people working for him, so I imagine that we are paying extra due to all of his employees, but he is a fantastic orthodontist and has a very well run office and practice. Plus he is understanding and nice about things where many orthodontists would not be.

We have been very blessed in our family to not need braces. My dentist did say that I have a small mouth, and some of the lower teeth are a little crooked, but never enough to need braces. I do not know how families afford it.

no I never did grew up poor and my grandmother couldn't afford it, then my son had one retainer but I was never able to afford any more. I was a single parent and money was really tight.

No, I didn't have braces, though I was close to getting some back when I was a teenager. I don't remember the exact amount, but I think it was something like $3500. I went through the whole process to get them. The consultation, the x-rays, the picture taking. But in the end I didn't get them because my dad ended up wanting my mom to help pay for them. Which I didn't think was fair as he was more than willing to pay for my sister's himself a year or 2 before that, so I didn't think our mom should have to help pay for mine, especially since she didn't make anywhere near as much as he did. But that's a different story. LOL My youngest son will need braces coming up. I don't look forward to it with the cost and all. But at least both kids don't need them, thank goodness. Oh, and my husband paid for his own braces back when he was in his 20's. Happy mylotting!

My daughter went through the same thing two sets of braces. I don't understand it really why they have to do that twice and charge us parents twice, but apparently her teeth were really bad too. Very frustrating and very expensive, but I never got to have braces and I wish I had so I want to make sure my children have nice teeth. The cost for my daughters braces were relatively the same as yours.

I did, twice. I had a dentist who put them on when I was 11 and then my wisdom teeth came in and messed up the whole process. The first time was free, the second time it cost me, 1,200 bucks. I'm thinking Invisaline for myself to correct some mistakes that a retainer just can't handle. I'm sure my kids will need them, who knows how much that will cost.
