What do you think about hollywood remaking so many movies?

I know I have noticed that and its just getting out of hand. Some movies from way back when are good to recreate but most are not. I can't believe that people in Hollywood are losing their touch with creativity. You would think there would be people in place beginning the process of replacing the great minds of Hollywood.

There do seem to be quite a lot of movie remakes from Fame Footloose. I don't necessarily mind as long as the movie is interpreted in a new and fresh way, with new direction. However 90% of films these days are still new.What I don't like is remakes that are made for television and have low budgets and are often shoot poorly with unskilled actors.

I am a media studies student and would say that Hollywood has never really been that creative with most blockbusters and Hollywood films following strict narrative and genre conventions. For example most films follow this narrative:

the hero normally an average person (which the audience can relate to) has a problem or situation to face or villian to overcome they spend the most of the movie gearing up to a final confrontation where they finally succeed after overcomming setbacks along the way. They are a changed person at the end of the film.

It's not difficult to predict the final outcome of Hollywood films.
Art house films and independent films however defy these conventions and promt the audience to think for themselves instead of just being entertained. They are also very creative, using different techniques, plots ect..

i think that it is all laziness, and lacks originality. it leads me to believe that true talent will soon be a thing of the past. original directors and scree writers and writers are a dying breed.

what is the point of a remake really, well except for seeing how much CGI you can get away with in a movie, or how many somewhat skanky beautiful people you can fit into the movie. i mean some of them work and it seems fresh, like re-imaginings, or telling the story from the perspective of another person who was there during the events from a previously made movie. but you can only do so much at the end of the day.

I really don't like the whole "remake" concept. These people make money, millions of dollars, off of someone else's idea!!! To top it all off, most of the movies are a lot worse than they were when they first came out!!! Like the movie "The Stepfather". It just seems really lame and cheesy. I know I won't go to see it!!

I think it has just gotten stupid. Does nobody have an imagination anymore? Does everybody think they can do it better? I am so bored with movies. I have seen tw all year!

I believe that they remake those movies in the old days. They use their new technology to remake those famous old movies.

I have noticed that. Some of them do need to be remade, but its going overboard. Also...how about all the movies based on books? Nearly everything is a remake or based on a book - Twilight, Harry Potter, Where the Wild Things Are, The Golden Compass, Angels and Demons...its never ending! Where did all the creativity go? (And please stop ruining the books when they are made into movies! Angels and Demons was AWFUL compared to the book!)
