Well my clothes usually get treatment of ordinary washing so I may not be qualified person to respond in this discussion. But I think no matter what type of washing it is, it will degrade fabric quality.

I work at a dry cleaners, so I will occasionally get my dresses and blouses and pants dry cleaned. I have to say: of course, the more you have anything cleaned - no matter the process (washing, hand washing, dry cleaning, etc) - it wears the fabric down. Dry cleaning definitely SLOWS the process, but of course the more times you have it cleaned, the more worn down it's going to get. But dry clenaing is much better for your delicate clothes (like dresses) than washing it in a washing machine. Sometimes hand-washing (depending on what kind of fabric it is - obviously not silk) is even more gentle on your clothes, and prolong their life. From my professional opinion? Get your dry cleaning done as LEAST as you possibly can: you'll save money this way and also not wear down your clothes as fast. So as I said, dry cleaning isn't as bad with causing your clothes to wear as washing is - but it still does have an effect on your clothes. I say, wear your clothes as many times as you can get away with, try not to get any stains on them, and dry clean them only when you really need to. You'll save money AND your clothes will last longer.
