I wonder what the new American Idol is going to be like without Paula Abdul. I always loved her little tats with Simon. Now they are going to have Ellen? That just doesn't make sense to me. But, then again, I didn't get Drew Carrey on the Price Is Right either. One thing is for sure, it won't be the same. What are some changes that you think we'll see to Idol? Do you think it will be better or worse? Will Simon and Ellen have a feud like him and Paula?

When Paula decided to leave American Idol I decided I was not going to watch the show ever again. Mainly because I felt the shows producers were not giving her the money she wanted meanwhile they gave it to the guys. I thought that was so unfail. Then when I heard that Ellen was going to be the new judge I was so excited and happy. She has said on her show that she will be a judge for the audience. She also said if Simon is rude to the contestants she would call him on it. So I really think its going to be both fun and interesting. I really can't wait for the show to start.

Yes, Paula will be missed. My first reaction was to not watch anymore either. I must admit I am not a big fan of Ellen. Being an audience judge kinda scares me a bit too. I just hope she doesn't turn the whole show into some sort of joke. It is a singing competition and I'd like to see it stay that way. Simon's rudeness has become part of the program. It will be interesting to see her reaction to some of the things he says. :-)

OMG, I have never heard of anyone not liking Ellen. She is such a nice giving person with a heart of gold. If you didn't see her on "Do you think you can Dance" she was a judge for that show one week. She was real and she wasn't joking around at all. She was serious and in fact one couple who had danced brought tears to her eyes. So she will not be turning the show into a joke just for your info.

OK that's cool. I didn't mean that I don't like Ellen. I know she is a wonderful person and very nice. I am not a fan of her humor all the time. It gets to be a bit much and too goofy sometimes. I'm only going by what I've seen on her show. I am looking forward to seeing a more serious side to her. :-)

I love to watch American Idol. So many talented singers have come from this show. One of my favorite parts of the show is the bantering between Simon and paula. I will miss her on the show. it just won't be the same without her.

Yes, I liked the bantering between the two of them as well. I also enjoyed Paula's weird off the wall comments. I will miss that. I think Ellen and Simon will bicker, but, it will be different now.

Yes, I will miss Paula too. I think she's adorable. A bit whacky, but, adorable nonetheless. I'm not a big fan of Kara either. I don't have anything against her, I just don't think she brought alot to the show. Almost like American Idol is too big for her.

Lol, without Paula Abdul it isn't really American Idol. I stopped watching it a long time ago, though. Why? It got awfully repetitive and the singers just weren't as interesting as they used to be. I bet the ratings for the show will drop dramastically however, I don't see it going anywhere any time soon. They make way too much off of a lot of different people and have plenty of sponsers to keep them alive. I actually think they should have got rid of American Idol, it's way past due already.
I don't see any feuds between him and and Ellen, but hey. Who knows. Maybe if their ratings plummet they might pay her and Simon extra to nag at eachother. Either that or it'll be a Simon and that other guy arguing all the time. Just wouldn't be the same though, aha. Oh well. I never planned on watching it again anyways, :p

I agree. The singers all sound like each other now. Even covering previous American Idol winners. Personally, my favorite shows are early in the season when the horrible people audition. I liked William Hung, and the guy that sang Unchained Melody. Those are my favorite. When it gets towards the end, I don't think the people are all that great (sometimes), yet the judges seem to think so. It's better when the people are terrible and everybody knows it.

It was getting to the point where I wanted to leave the room when it was Paula's turn to talk. She never had anything useful to say to the contestants - if she didn't like a performance, instead of critiquing it and helping the contestant improve, she'd get all gooey and tell them "You are a beautiful soul," or something equally unhelpful - and she couldn't ignore Simon. He needled her because she allowed him to. If she would have just ignored his snide comments, the way Kara and Randy do, he wouldn't have made nearly as many of them. He did it just to get a reaction from her because her reactions were soooooooooooooo over the top outrageous.
Personally, I'm glad she's gone. I don't really think they needed to replace her and I'm not sure what kind of knowledge Ellen has about music but I'm glad Paula and her spoiled child routine are off the show.

I can see your point there. I used to get pissed when Paula would get all gooey and cry and stuff. But I enjoyed her off the wall comments that made no sense and her quarrels with Simon. That kinda stuff made the show for me. She wasn't trying to be funny, but for me it was. And, I must admit, Paula was easy to look at. She's a psycho, but she's adorable. I look forward to seeing what Ellen has to bring to the table, but it will be different for sure.

Hi ringbearer,
American Idol is the only reality show that I follow and look forward to every season. While I like Paula's presence there, I personally feel she's not helping the show or any of the contestants with her sugar-coated but empty remarks. Ellen would bring a fresh new look to the show, and I am already excited at how she will make her presence felt as she joins the other 3 judges. Kara made it with flying colors when she made her debut last year, I hope Ellen will do just as good.

Paula's empty sugar coated comments did stink. I enjoyed her zany comments however. You never really knew what she was gonna say. Kara did ok, but, I think Ellen's debut will hold much more pzaz. I wonder how the two of them are going to gel.

I don't like Ellen and I don't think she is a good fit for American Idol. She isn't a singer but of course neither is Simon or Randy but Randy is a music producer. I still don't think she is a good fit. She is funny though so it might be good for laughs on there but I think that is all she will be good for. I don't see how she qualifies to be a judge. I don't know, that is just my opinion. As for it being better or worse, not sure. Guess we will have to see! :)

Good point about the judges not being singers. Sometimes they think perfomances were good and I think they were terrible. Ellen can be funny. I just hope she doesn't try to be too funny. She should take judging very seriously and listen closely. It's supposed to be about the singers and the performances, I trust it will stay that way. Either way, I can't wait to see what the next season holds! :-)

It will be different having Ellen on American Idol and I am sure she will make it interesting and not take anything off of Simon. I liked Paula Abdul and will miss her and Simon's fueding. We will just have to wait and see what will happen and if the fans of American Idol like the change.

I don't think Ellen will take anything from Simon either. In fact, I think it's possible Simon may get a little intimidated by Ellen. We will have to wait and see. I will miss Paula too. The bickering and her nutty comments were two of my favorite parts of the show.

I wonder why they choose Ellen to fill in Paula's position because she does not have any acomplishment in the music industry. Anyway, I know she will not sit there and watch Simon continue with his nasty comments

I wonder that myself. It will be entertaining to watch what happens. I hope she takes the judging aspect seriously though. I mean humour is great, but, it's about the best singer after all. I expect she will bicker with Simon. I hope she can break him down some, that would be funny.

I think Paula made a real difference in the show. She was the nice one but she had this love hate relationship with Simon that made things interesting. As with Ellen, well, there's the issue of her being gay which I know doesn't sit well to the majority of society. I am not against her lifestyle choice. I really could care less so I'm wondering how is it going to affect the show as a whole.
Yeah, the whole thing about Drey Carey on the price is right sort of threw me off there but well, he seems to be doing pretty well. I'd be interested in seeing what happens in the coming season of AI. I don't have much of an opinion right now other than I am curious. That's all.

Well, to date, there's only been Adam Lambert who has gotten far in spite of his gender preference but info about him was concealed until later on in the show. I don't know if that affected his chances of winning AI as a whole but well, it doesnt matter anymore.
I have nothing against the gay community whatsoever. I think it's a good thing that Ellen is on the show for exposure and like you, so that people would be more open and not discriminate.
Thanks and happy mylotting
