Is Anyone Else Quitting Smoking for the Great American Smoke-Out?  

I get what you're saying about the propaganda. I have a real aversion to the government getting so pushy and "we-know-better-for-you" and all. And there have been a lot of times where I've smoked right through the Smoke-Out day--in fact, this is the first one that I'm going to quit for. I guess my attitude is that for those who want to quit, it's a good opportunity.

Well, that's it - an opportunity.

I do hope that you're successful, if you truly want to quit. (Looks like it's down to me to prop up Imperial Tobacco's ailing cashflows... )

I cannot imagine, for one moment, Greece seriously implementing a smoking ban... Is this a function of EU legislation?

It was actually brought in around July but has only been taken any notice of in the cities and of course it was the EU pushing us around again. This is the country where it is practically compulsory to smoke and no one likes being told what they can and can't do.
The first ban reached the banks where the staff are now no longer allowed to smoke at the cashiers desk, which has caused disruption as they now have to join the queue of smokers outside to have a cigarette. The food chain Goodys has also implemeted it and now has no customers. It hasn't been an issue until now as everyone ate and drank outside but the policy is meant to now spread into tavernas and cafenions where they frankly laugh at the idea. I wasn't joking when I said about people moving their tables into the kitchens to smoke.
I don't know who they expect to implement this ban in rural areas, the smoking policemen? The only people who will appreciate the ban are the ex pat non smokers and the tourists. In my mind it is completely unworkable and I do not know one person who has given up smoking because of this ban.
