Where do you get your ideas from??

My little daughter brought a book home to read to me yesterday, it was a good story book all about doughnuts. These people took a doughnut van down to the beach to sell fresh hot doughnuts to the people on the beach. They sold lots of doughnuts and then decided to leave the van and sit on the beach for a while. After they had left the van it blew up, the gas cylinder was faulty. Doughtnuts flew everywhere and landed in all sorts of places. The author got this idea for the story from the news.... a van had blown up on the motor way and ready made doughnuts were blown all over the motorway and landed on cars etc. My question is what children's stories could you make out of the everyday news you hear on the radio or on the television or read on the pc

I have made a few children's stories, but usually mine are about animals that I have seen or heard about. There are many heartwarming stories where animals have been lost or left behind and traveled long distances to find their humans, but alas so many of the news stories are about pets that were hurt by mean people.

I may have known here when she was in Kansas. I borrowed her to take to preschool to meet the kids when we were reading the book "The Mitten" or was it "The Hat" by Ann Brett. Ann has hedgehogs in lots of her stories.

Oh, you are so sweet. I do not even have them with me where I am now staying, but my favorite was about a baby hedgehog who was discontented with her life as a vegetarian in England and went off to see if she could find a McDonald's hamburger (which we hope she does not find because that kind of food is very bad for a hedgehog!) She did not know that, however, so she ran away and ended up in Kansas, USA. It is not legal to keep a hedgehog as a pet in California, but one of my students smuggled one in from another state where they are legal pets and she brought it to class for everyone to see. That is what gave me the idea for that story.

I steal all my ideas from 'Anne18' on MyLot. But I don't think she's figured it out yet...

We ought to get together and put our heads together and write some more stories, steal each others ideas again?? What do you reckon?

Stories about animals would make good stories, and about the daycare or houses that kids go to could be good stories. Kids love stories about day to day happenings, animals and such. They can relate to that.
