Give today's obsession to win, sports persons use every possible help in order to win. Aussies resort to sledging when loosing a game of cricket, last night we saw Thiery Henry use the Hand of God to take France into the world cup and we all know about Diego Maradona's Hand of God incident as well.
What is your take on it? Do you think role models such as sports person should cheat? Do you think the associations should handle these issues with a tougher hand?
Cheers!

In my opinion, there is no such thing as a "role model" among sport persons. It's true that many people look up to them, but that might never have been his/her intention. The only purpose in sport is to be among the winners. As long as the laws of the game don't penalize them for cheating or if they are not caught for cheating, it's everybody's choice.
In my view on sports I disapprove of cheating - but, then again, I don't engage sports as means of earning my living... When you do it just for fun, it's much easier to support the ethical behavior, but that is not that easy when your earning depends on it.
I think the rules of games should be less permissive, and such cheating punished severely. I don't think Henry risks any punishment, as I don't think FIFA has any laws saying you can get fined/suspended if your hand-balling is seen on tapes of the match. If the referee didn't see him (or didn't want to see him), he's free to go. In my opinion, the referee should be punished much harder than Henry, because his decision might have cost Ireland the presence in the 2010 World Cup (that's because France might have still won, fairly, on penalties). I think he should be expelled from refereeing. Not just from international matches, from all kind of matches.

Hmm... you are right, they might be a difference between playing for fun and playing for a livelihood. Yet, I do not feel that as sports persons you should resort to cheating especially in these days when everything is clearly caught on the TV and you go to live with it all through you life.
And yes you are right, the referee should take a major blame for the Henry incident.
Cheers!
