Is super sensitive painful skin symptom of Fybromyalgia? Does anyone have this?

I've have had super sensitive skin issues for nearly a year that I can remember. My skin hurts to be touched. Like a huge scrape that is wide open. I never thought much about it because it was only on one side of the other in a mall patch of skin, and would go away after a day or so. Recently it has increased in strength and length of duration. I had a friend tell me this could be fibromyalgia. I'd like to meet a few people that have this diagnosed by a doctor and tell me what you experience and any treatments you and your doctor have found that works. Thanks for any advice. Even food that might cause a flair up! (or help it go away)

There are a ton more symptoms than listed above. Heightened senses if DEFINITELY a symptom, so much so that one doctor I heard speak on the subject renamed it sensitive sensitivity syndrome. My sense of smell has increased to the point of utter annoyance and I do know of several fibromites who have had such sensitivity to touch that they can't stand to be hugged. The thought of having a massage (which I love) is unbearable to them. So this is not an unusual symptom of fibromyalgia. I have had fibro for 13 years and ran a support group for several years. I am very knowledgeable on the subject. I can tell you I am a lot better than I was the first five years of my illness. What helped me was Mag-Citrate (Magnesium and Malic Acid), exercise and losing weight also helped. I used to take 6-8 Tylenol 3's a day, but now take only one at bedtime and one in the morning. I know I would be a heck of a lot better if I could eliminate sugar from my diet but I just love my sweets too much. There are plenty of websites with information on fibromyalgia. I hope you find some answers and get some relief from this annoying symptom.

Anything white which includes sugar, white potatoes, white rice, and white flour; red meat and probably dairy. If you think about the IBS symptom of fibro and you want to eliminate anything that affects IBS and fibro pain, you're pretty much left with fruit and nuts to eat.

Well, there's good news... I like fruit and nuts... Think positive, right? I guess those are good things to eliminate anyway as I'm also trying to loose 25 lbs this year. Don't do a whole lot of read meat, but tons of pasta cause it's cheap. Thanks for all your advice! I really appreciate it.

yup. I'm one of those people that when it flairs can't have clothes touch me or hugging.......... nope, no way. I went with a friend to a chocolate massage, manicure deal and WOW did it hurt. Didn't want to say anything since it was her dime, but man.. couldn't wait to get it over with! Thanks for giving as much info as you have. I'll look into it and chart my symptoms in case I choose to pursue this. I've heard that sugar is WAY bad for Fybro pain. I'm guessing it's true?

Some of the symptoms of Fybromyalgia are: *Pain * Anxiety * Concentration and memory problems -- known as "fibro fog" * Depression * Fatigue * Headaches * Irritable bowel syndrome * Morning stiffness * Painful menstrual cramps * Sleep problems * Swelling, numbness, and tingling in hands, arms, feet, and legs * Tender points * Urinary symptoms Your friend may be correct. I'd check with your doctor. My mom has it. She says skin sensitivity is a problem for her.

WOW. There's a lot on that list that I don't have. I was told that it could be either genetic or caused by a major trauma to the body. I'm going to spend some time listening to my Mylot friends and researching on the internet. I appreciate your input. It's always good to hear from first hand experience!

Another theory is a previous virus. In my case I believe in the theory of mononeucliosis as the age of 17 planted the seed that lay dormant until a trauma - the birth of my second child. I had a post-natal infection from the freezing, popped a stitch and had a colicky baby. Previous events like my abusive first marriage probably contributed to the building up of my body saying "enough is enough!"

Interresting. I've heard about trauma bringing it on too. I've had plenty!! I had one every other year for about 10 years straight. I never thought I would be in this category. Now it has spread to my left foot... from the left knee that was 1. injured in a car accident in 2007 and again when a blood valve blew SAME DATE in 2009. I just wonder how expensive it is to get it diagnosed, and then if it gets diagnosed... how reliable are treatments and should I even bother? Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm sure my body is "done", but I'M NOT! "*) Bear

its a real medical condition. It inclues all-over muscles painthat can make it hard to do even day-today tasks. The pain may vary from mild to severe. The muscle pain from this desease is none of the most common types of chronic widespread pain in the US people with fibromyalgia may not know what is wrong with them or what is causing their pain. They may feel alone.

Mine isn't widespread or severe. Mostly I have pain due to a bad car accident, nerve damage also. I just recently realized the skin sensitivity. Last night the sensitivity was in the inside top part of my foot which made lying down to sleep odd. I'm so used to pain everywhere from the accident I usually fall asleep no matter what hurts! I never even thought of FYBRO until a friend mentioned that my symptoms sound like it could be it. It sounds simply awful though. What kinds of tests do they run to find out if you have it? Thanks for responding! Bear
