and had a WONDERFUL time! For weeks she was so excited about it and was determined to go no matter where it was being held. It was about a 5 or 6 hour trip but she did remarkably well! They stayed in a friends camper, our old neighbor back when I was just 6 years old and then moved away. She and dad went to the reunion and got to see what was left of the original family for most are dead and gone. I think she said there's 4 of them left and then their kids, grand kids and the greats. She told me that she didn't have one dizzy spell the whole weekend!
Now let me tell you this first, she has been doing better and better with her dizzy spells but still has them but not nearly as often as she did. She has a problem with balance because of her inner ear problem and is going to see a highly recommended doctor who specializes in this sort of thing some time next month. Hopefully, he'll be able to help her. We sure hope so! This has been a long and hard journey since April of '08 when she had that awful brain stem stroke and almost died three times. (explanation to those who don't know) Long haul but we're getting there!
To continue on, she did so well at the reunion that she didn't have one dizzy spell! She got to see her relatives and had a grand ole time! Isn't that great or isn't that great?!! LOL Her friend and ex neighbor took her and dad around the so called town which is now a huge city to show them around and of course, mom and dad didn't recognize a thing because it has all grown up so much. It had been many years since they were up in that area so it's no wonder. Even my childhood home was torn down and a subdivision was built in it's place. Then on their way home, they stopped by their old house to meet the new renters..... YES!! They finally have renters!! LOL Mom and dad seemed to like them a lot and said they seemed to be right nice people and she commented on how clean and nice they have the house and how the lady has it all prettied up and all so it really made them feel good seeing that. A contrasting difference from how my darling nephew (sarcastic) had it. BIG difference because he trashed the place and hubby and I spent 5 days cleaning and painting the place to get it ready to be sold. Now nice and clean people are renting it and guess what else!! They LOVE the place and want to buy it!!
Can you believe it?! lol Hard to believe after all this time and finally it's happening! And get this, they came in the nick of time too because mom and dad were three payments behind and had given up on ever selling the place and were going to let the bank repossess it!! Knock me upside the head, will ya?! LMBO! However, these people told mom and dad that they have a smudge on their credit report and are trying to straighten it out so they can get the loan to buy the house. Ok, now it's time to sigh so on the count of three, we all sigh together.... One, two, three.... *SIGH*
Ok to continue on, then they went to see some old neighbors in THAT neighborhood and then came on home. Mom was a little chatterbox over the phone on her way home. She talked about this person and that person in which I don't know them but listened to her ramble on for it was so nice to hear her be in such an upbeat mood! Yadda Yadda Yadda!! lol So knowing that tomorrow is going to be a big deal to her, I'm hoping my brother leaves me alone. He made reservations at a German restaurant for mom's birthday and all of us kids and spouses are expected to be there. I want it to be good for mom and dad both for they're just ecstatic when they get all of us kids together at once instead of one come and go and another shows up and so on. They really love having us three kids together with them so it'll be right special for sure but I'm really nervous about it because my middle brother and I aren't on speaking terms. As long as he leaves me and hubby alone, he'll be just fine.
Were you waiting for an update? I'm sorry to have kept you so long! With the holidays coming up, I've been quite busy but I'm catching up. I think....

I was so happy to hear about it and shocked too when she told me that she didn't have one dizzy spell! After a year and half of mostly hell, it's right nice to hear such fantastic news! I'm so happy for her that I could dance all night long. lol
The dinner went really well! I'm going to do a discussion and tell all about it in a few minutes, once I get caught up here. I hate to leave discussions unanswered and I know I've left a few in that way before but I just couldn't get caught up no matter how hard I tried but did want to keep you updated on my going ons. Hugs!

Oh well!!! good she was able to meet her relatives. Why is it that only your dad and mom were attending the reunion? In out country when we have family reunions all of us in the family would go, the kids and parents so that we will also meet our cousins and we will know each other. That's the purpose of having reunion, so that we will know each other because we are living far away from each other so, the reunion thing is the only way for us to meet and be connected as relatives.

My brothers and I didn't go because we didn't know anybody anymore. Most of who we knew were gone now and my parents knew the older folks but not the younger ones. When we were little, we did go to the reunions but it's been many years since we had one and everybody has gone their separate ways and well, kind of forgot each other. Weird I know but it happens sometimes.

hi catsanddogs I am so glad your mom is doing so well and that shw and your dad had such a good time. Glad to about the house. I do remember when your mom had that stroke so am glad she is better now if the doctor can help her with her balance problem. My husband had an inner problem but I do not remember what it was that helped him now. Hope the birthday dinner goes just beautifully and that your one brother does not spoil it.
good luck and God Bless cats.

The doctor put mom on Valium which was the most ridiculous thing we've ever heard! But it's what they told her to take but mom can't take the amount they want her to because she'd be a zombie! Her body and mine, (for I take after her) are very sensitive to medications so we can't always take the amounts that the doctors give us especially pain killers or Valium, Xanax types of medications. We'd both be walking zombies or more like crawling zombies. lol But she does take about half of it and it seems to be helping. Her doctor told her it's what they prescribe these days for vertigo and it does help.... eventually. Apparently it's true for it's helping mom but still, she wants to see this other doctor to see if he can help her move along faster.
As for tomorrow, it's for only two hours, I have to keep reminding myself that, it's for only two hours then we'll be on our way back home.

Hi maliknawaz! Welcome to mylot!
I agree, it is very valuable to spend time with our moms but I didn't go to the reunion, just her and dad because I don't know any of those people. But still, mom and dad both had a wonderful time and that's really cool. I'm so glad they got to go.
