How Did You Spend Your Day???

Here in the US it's Thanksgiving Day!!! Since my Mom passed away & my Dad is living alone, I go over & cook for him on Wednesdays & Sundays. My brother feeds him on Saturdays. I fed Dad yesterday. My brother decided that he & his wife would bring Thanksgiving dinner this year & we would celebrate Thanksgiving on his day with Dad or on Saturday. As I was leaving Dad's yesterday he asked what I was doing for Thanksgiving & I responded I guess I'll be sitting home by myself. So I asked him what he would be doing & he responded I guess I'll be doing the same thing. Now, this man has refused to join in on ANY holiday celebration since Mom died so I hadn't even thought that he might need company on this holiday. I thought about it for a bit & then called him & explained that I didn't have anything bought to cook for Thanksgiving. Then I asked him if he wanted to go to a restaurant close to my house that was opening strictly for lunch to serve turkey & dressing. He jumped at the idea. So, today I'm thankful that I still have my Dad to share this day with. I'm thankful that I can & did eat waaaay too much for lunch!!! I'm thankful for ALL MY FRIENDS HERE AT MYLOT. You help me get through my day almost daily!!! So, tell me please, how did you spend your day today (even if it wasn't celebrating Thanksgiving) & are you thankful for anything in particular???

That sounds such a wonderful day with your Dad LadyM. It may not seem like much, but just spending time together can be really powerful and positive. Although we don't have Thanksgiving here, the Boss and I went into town and met up with several sets of friends - completely coincidentally. The result is that we are now going to meet up with a very special friend who we haven't seen for years and who just happened to be behind us in the queue at the store checkout. Poor clerk took ages to pack us away as we were all hugging and kissing etc. Good family and friends - truly something to give thanks for.

I am glad that you did have an excellent thanksgiving day and it was indeed spend wisely. In my case, its not a holiday. Just an ordinary day. So I spend my day working and enjoying my work. I was conducting a lecture on first aid and emergency care and once again it was a very productive day. I am a bit tired, but it was worth the effort.

It's not Thanksgiving here; we had Thanksgiving last month. I spent the day running errands and Christmas shopping.

Yes, I'm aware that the Canadian Thanksgiving is about a month before ours. Only a few stores were open here today. Most of our stores open at 5:00 am tomorrow & that officially starts our Christmas shopping season. My paycheck comes next week so I won't be out fighting the crowds tomorrow!!!

it happened that i am now in a muslim dominated country and today is their eid el adha which means the feast of the meat. and at the same time, this is my day off. so i didn't have anywhere to go to because there are no public transportation available. i took my time to walk in the streets and have a little time watching in a small market. what is there to watch? sheeps and cows being slaughtered. and people of different levels (poor and rich) waiting for the meat to be distributed. according to my friend, rich people would buy one whole animal and have it slaughtered and divided into three parts, one for themselves, another for their friends and relatives, and the last for the poor. finally, i decided to visit my friends who have the same day off like mine today. happy eid!!!

Your story is a little sad but so moving! It is terrible to lose a family member. For old parent who live alone, it is extremely lonely. I can iamgin it although I am not old enough to experience it. As a young and relatively careless student, I live a simple life everyday. Get up in the morning and then go lab, then have lunch and go back to work... , till the mid night I will go back to the dorm. Pretty simple and boring, isn't it? But I still appretiate the chance to get higher education and do some research I like. So usually I spend a day with a thankful mind.

Yes, it is very sad to lose a family member!!! Dad chose to live alone. He refused to leave the home he shared with Mom for over 50 of their 65 years together. I've always loved him, but we were never as close as me & Mom!!! Oh to be young & careless again!!! I can tell you it goes from simple & boring to challenging & boring fairly quick!!! Enjoy your simple, yet boring life while it lasts. It won't be long before you will be one of the old people being pitied by the young!!!
