Leaving W, Senior, Obama, and Palin out of this .... | | | | I don't condone killing, but, I am sure we have some common feelings about some people the world would be better off with had they never been born (ie - Hitler). List your top three (fact or even ficticious characters, dead or alive), off the top of your head, and why. And on the flipside, list the top three you are grateful the world got to see, and why. There will be more, I am sure, but don't put too much research into it. I just want to know who you are thinking about presently. List your age and country too, if you feel like it. I am interested in seeing the generational and locational differences. PEOPLE I WISH WE NEVER HAD. 1. James Dobson. He tells 200 million listeners that homosexuality is a choice, when medical and psychiatric groups have already stated otherwise. He says it is not natural, though nature has seen it in 450 species (mammals, too) and counting. He has a facility that abuses children, brainwashes them, and horrifies them back into the closet. He says homosexuality is a reparable mental disorder, but his facility is leading more kids into the suicidal path. Suppressing who you really are comes with grave consequences. 2. Ronald McDonald, the brainchild of McDonald's restaurants. America is the fattest nation, and McDonalds uses Ronald McDonald to lure our children in because he is a clown, and they have the happy meals with those cute toys. More children recognize Ronald McDonald than they do the president and the caricature of jesus. McDonalds employs some of the worst factory farming practices in the fast food industry. 3. The men who framed Oswald. JFK would have been an excellent president, would have taken our troops out of Vietnam sooner, and would have helped secure equality for our citizens faster. Meanwhile, we are nearing 46 years after his death, and we are still fighting for equal rights in our nation. He is probably turning over in his grave knowing that some schools still had segregated proms in the 1990s. ------------- Top 3 people I am thankful for 1. Rosa Parks. She gave a level or realism to who she was as a person. A citizen who wanted to sit down. The bus driver told her she had to sit in the back of the bus to make room for a white passenger. Other people also refused to move to the back of the bus, but for some reason Park's action sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott. 2. Margaret Cho. She is a comedienne who does great advancement for the glbt community, and the liberals. 3. Madonna. She has helped to embrace sexuality, and she has helped with humanitarian efforts, particularly in Milawi, where one million children have been orphaned, having lost their parents to Aids. Many of those kids are infected with Aids themselves, or are raising their four year old siblings, when they are nine. Few of them go to school, or eat, or live in clean shelter. Had I never seen the movie, "I am because we are" I would have been blind to the whole issue at hand. Obviously, I have more on either side (Harvey Milk, Dr. King, and reverse - Limbaugh, Beck, Anita Bryant, etc), I just want to know who first comes to your mind and why you feel that way. I am turning 31 on Monday and live in California (blue state) that was recently ravaged by the LDS church of Utah. | | | | | | | | | | Heroines Download Free Game Cheats, Hints, Tricks, Codes, Demos& more now Free! gamesdownloadpro.com/Heroines

| | Hi Ladybug, not sure whether to play or not as one could be controversial but why not. The ones we needed were, to me, Simon Wiesenthal, my all time number one hero, great man, writer, and total dedication to his cause. I don't think he's going to make enough impact on history as he should at all, but whilst he was alive he never let revisionism go uncorrected. My second one would be Eleni Gatzonyiannis, a Greek heroine, murdered by the communists in 1948. Her son, Nicholas Gage, wrote the story of her tragedy and put into print a segement of Greek history which really didn't make it into the history books and few people know about. Third is an example of the rest, Wieslaw Kielar, who wrote Anus Mundi, or 'Five years in Austwich'. He introduced me in his book to the Holocaust and thus the writings of many more, and is an example of many who write of history in their own lifetime which has previously been hidden, such as writers from China when it was closed to the outside world, Iran, Arab nations, many more. I think this kind of writer puts the pages of history texts into real perspective and risk persecution often times for doing so. So onto the ones we could well have done without. I'd start with Mao as much of the reading I've done about China under him was terrifying as it really was mind control with the indoctrination of the political prisons, the horror of things like the cultural revolution and the starvation and terror his regime brought about. The architects of the Holocaust of course, not just Hitler there but others like Eichman. A huge loss to history in not having these people studied more before they died to see what their real thoughts were, how much was all about controlling a nation to do their bidding rather than actual active hatred of those they chose to persecute. Third would be controversial but I won't be discussing it further with anyone, it is my opinion. Jesus. If he had turned up in times when media could spread the word then that religion would never have been brought into being. An example is the later ones who have turned up say on TV declaring they were the son of god have been laughed of the stage, but those were more primitive times. I suppose in these days he's be more likely to be accepted as a writer of self help books or somesuch but it shows how a man made religion can cause so much trouble in the world - Christians fight other christians of different denominations, one of their first teachings to impressionalbe children is that the Jews killed Jesus, if he hadn't been a hit then Mohammed might not have needed to be turned into a cult figure either, we'd have been spared the inquistion and the holocaust, the abuses of catholicism and so much. | | | | | | | ladybugmagic (896)

| | Wow! Very educational. I had to wikipedia Wiesenthal and Gatzonyiannis. Are you talking about Wiesenthal's book, The Sunflower? At the risk of showing my ignorance which Mao are you talking about? Is it Tse-tsung? I want to thank you for being controversial in your last statement. I know you tend to avoid controversy, but you made an excellent point, and one I support in full. I have to bookmark this thread. I want to research everyone you listed. :-) | | | | thea09 (5382)

| | Ladybug you just caught me before I signed off. Wiesnenthal wrote far more than 'The Sunflower'. He was known as the Nazi hunter, he survived the concentraton camps and made it his lifes work, until his death at almost 100 a few years ago, to bring Nazis to justice, his aim being justice not vengeance. He was intensely disliked by many who felt he stole the limelight but has centres named after him in various countries now including Israel. He had a photgraphic memory and his documentation centre in Vienna was the ultimate in information held on Nazis. Mao as in chairman Mao. When one talks about atrocities the way he controlled a whole culture with his methods was quite unbelivable, changing his mind constantly about which aspect of society was acceptable or not. Some of his policies such as the making of iron literally controlled everyone and it grew into control of parents fearing children, teachers fearing students, the perfect example of totalitarism. | | | | ladybugmagic (896)

| | That is where I have a terrible problem. I would want vengeance and justice both. It would eat me alive. Have you seen "The Painist"? It is based on a true story, and the lead character lost all of his family in the camps. I, personally, would probably go insane with anger, and I would want justice served, but I would hate being nice about it. I don't think I could be. I am so happy Wiesenthal survived and had such a good memory. The wikipedia article I read said he brought the man who arrested Anne Frank to justice, among many others. I am so going to have to google movies on Mao. Or netflix something on him. It sounds really scary. | | | | | | ladybugmagic (896)

| | Thanks! I am trying to get my number of posts up to earn the ever valuable "copy and paste" ability, so I thought I would create some discussions. I was going to start asking people their favourite ice cream flavour, which I did, in a way, by asking about the older celebrities they like for eye candy. I saw that film come up when I googled Wiesenthal. It was listed on IMDB. I wonder if it is on hulu or snagfilms. Might have to resort to netflix. Back to posting I go. The parody one I did, I am having trouble not getting reactive at, as I tried making it the funny post. Twice now, I wanted to comment back to some of the posters, but did not want to debate so much in that one, as I intended for it to be light-hearted. | | | | | | | | | Heroines Download Free Game Cheats, Hints, Tricks, Codes, Demos & more now Free! gamesdownloadpro.com/Heroines | add comment | | | |

| | I live in California as well and I am 62 (Will you still take my opinion? LOL). My top three people that I wish were never born are: 1. Adolph Hitler for the horrific crimes that he perpetrated against the Jewish people. 2. Osama Bin Laden for the horrific crimes that he perpetrated against the American people. 3. Bernie Madoff for destroying lives and almost destroying a critical piece of the American economy, having done so simply for self gain and having no remorse for what he did. That being said Hitler and Bin Laden changed the course of history and it is interesting to me to speculate how different things might be today. What Madoff's contribution is to history is still to be written. The three people that I'm most grateful for is a lot harder because there are so many people who have made a positive contribution to our lives but I'll give it a try. 1. Mother Teresa who served the poorest of the poor and did so with great love and humility. 2. J.K. Rowling, a welfare mother about to be evicted from her home, who dreamed of writing stories about the characters she created in her head and became the first billionaire author in history. 3. Abraham Lincoln who believed in his soul that slavery was wrong and stood against popular opinion because abolishing slavery was just the right thing to do. The civil war changed the course of this nation's history and became the cornerstone on which a civil rights movement could be built. | | | | | | | ladybugmagic (896)

| | What ever happened to Madoff? Was he jailed? Is he still alive? I am so happy you mentioned JK Rowling. She is someone to look up to, especially if you are in a bad situation. It shows persistance can actually pay off. I love her success story. | | | | lovinangelsinstead21 (3606)

| | Hiya LaureninLA, I know you only state three personalities but I would also go against Adolf Hitler, Praise for Abraham Lincoln and Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Also a fourth one if you let me Florence Nightingale who did much for England and set a trend to lead England out of it´s dark ages. She was known as the Lady of the Lamp. There are a few more that I would mention but that´s dragging it on. | | | | | | | Heros Toys at Moolka.com Wooden European Toys Free shipping over $60 www.moolka.com | add comment | | | |

| | What a great topic, ladybugmagic! A very tough one to answer but a great one nonetheless. I must say, your lists for both categories are very good ones and they're quite hard to follow. Here I go anyway... Three of the people or groups of people I feel the world would have been better off without are: 1/ Whomever first came up with the idea of making health care a for-profit industry. I may be liberal but I'm not anti-capitalist, anti-business or anti-profit; I simply don't think those things have any place in the health care field. There was a time not too long ago when most hospitals and health insurers were non-profits and doctors still made a good living and they weren't drowned in paper-work or gouged by malpractice insurance companies. 2/ Kate Moss and all of the other models, as well as the agencies and designers who "created" them, who have given our young girls such a bad body-image and made young boys think anyone who isn't shaped like a toothpick is "fat"! I agree with you about Ronald McDonald but this is the other extreme. It seems our kids are either overweight or too thin, there's no "normal", not that they'd know what that is! 3/ Whoever decided it should be allowed to advertise prescription medications. It's bad enough that so many adults now think they need to take a pill for everything but they're also doping our kids up, turning them into little zombies if they're nothing more than normal, active kids! Now for the good, those special people and groups who have made the world a better place for us all to live and those who know we still have a long way to go and are still trying... 1/ All of the "unsung heroes". Those who may not have actually invented anything but came up with an idea that would make life easier, better, longer for the rest of us. Also, every girl or young woman that dared to think she should have the same opportunities as her brothers and/or male classmates/co-workers; every member of every minority who thought the same thing about his or her "majority" peers. I also want to include every disabled or challenged person who refused to be held back. 2/ Children. When kids are given a chance they can and DO make a difference. Ask a group of middle school kids to collect canned goods for the needy and they'll beat the grown-ups every time. Tell them there are kids their ages somewhere in the world who need something they take for granted and they'll work their butts off to see to it they get it. I also have to give props to the adults that make the children aware of the things they can do! 3/ The people who made the great people great! That is, the parents and others who influenced all of those who have gone on to make huge contributions to our society. Everyone is born with great potential; it takes a "village" to make and shape a hero! Annie | | | | | | | ladybugmagic (896)

| | I love your post, but that goes without saying. Have you seen that magazines even photoshop the waif-thin models? I do think both extremes are dangerous. Did you see when Kim Kardashian did not want to be photoshopped and said, "I have cellulite. So what?" Mad props go to her. I hate when parents have their children treated for ADHD, without ever restructuring their nutrition program first. A lot of kids are consuming way too much sugar and no one ever thinks that is a contributer. I agree that children are amazing, and the parents who encourage them are great. I was at the mall today, and I saw a parent telling her child what "toys for tots" is. Thanks for the post; it put a lot into perspective for me. :-) | | | | lovinangelsinstead21 (3606)

| | Hi ladybug, Overweight issue is big in Spain at the momet. A couple have had their Child taken away from them till he has lost weight. In my opinion not such a good idea. It should be the Family who is reeducated to learn how to eat properly. Having said that the amount of anorexic Girls is on the increase and they are not getting well either. For example someone of my size who just weighs 59 kilos cannot find a skirt that fits her just right they are all far too small and tight. Lady in the Shop suggested that I was overweight? I actually took at her bulging waistline and thought to myself well what about you lol. None so blind as those who cannot see? | | | | ladybugmagic (896)

| | Couples here have their overweight children taken away from them in extreme cases, like if they suffer a heart attack at 14, or weigh 400 pounds. Anorexia is probably big in the states, I think it is big everywhere now with the social websites like myspace and facebook. People love posting pics of themselves at parties or the beach, and consider the boney look, or just the right amount of curves, "hot". Anything a little too jiggly or squishy gets you placed in the "not" category. I have my own weight issues, too. I am told I am underweight, but I am making myself eat more, and I don't like to, because I really want to wear a bikini in the summer. But, that is what exercise is for. I also limit what I eat because of my chosen lifestyle: vegan. It sometimes makes it hard to pack on weight. And I do the ultimate 'no-no'. I will induce vomit if I ate something that was made with butter without my knowledge (or something along those lines). I don't know how people battle eating disorders easily. We have what is called "fat camp", and we institutionalize people with anorexia. I'd rather go to camp than translate the lyrics of RadioHead songs in a psychiatric ward. I heard people have their ribs removed to make their waists look skinnier? Do you know if that is true? | | | | bestboy19 (2465)

| | Annie, I agree with number three on your worst list. How many people have run to the doctor to get a drug they don't really need and have been harmed by it or another drug they have had to take to counter the side effects of the first drug? I've known people who have taken drug after drug to counter side effects and have ended up loony or dead, often times, loony and dead. Allowing pharmaceutical companies to advertise was a foolish mistake. | | | | | | | Business Lending Contact GE Capital Today for Business Lending Solutions. fastyourtr.com | add comment | | | |

| | Hello. I would like to say that I would definitely put Hitler on the first person to never been born! But I'll just get to the point with this list. People I Wish To Have Never Existed: 1.) Hitler (Obviousely) And his Right Hand Man. I forgot the guy's name but if either of these peoplee were to never exist the holocaust would have never happened. I mean come on! What did the Jewish do to him so badly as to genocide it? 2.) The People Who Made The School System. I wouldn't really wish them away, I wish that the school systems had been made differently based on individual knowlegde instead of grouping kids by age. I mean take me for example. I knew things way past my grade level, but they won't let me skip ahead because of my age. If someone else would've done then maybe now I could skip ahead. 3.) Left Blank. Don't have one yet here. And about not having Ronald McDonald, it's actually the consumers' fault not the clown. If I were gonna sell you something that was good it's your choice to choose to buy or not. No one is forced to buy a Big Mac, or a happy meal. But if he did forced it that would be a different subject. | | | | | | | ladybugmagic (896)

| | You made some excellent points. I agree that a consumer is at fault when making a purchase, but McDonalds has some really tricky advertising up their sleeves. Big companies like that hire psychologists to find out what compels a person to purchase, appeals to the "nag factor" a child gives a parent until they yield, pays plants to sit outside busy buildings eating their food and showing their logos, etc. It removes some of the choosing from the consumer, because it is very manipulating. When I was a freshman in high school, I was taking some classes at a local juco, because I already completed the level at that age, so I do agree with that, as well. The school systems should be reorchestrated. | | | | lovinangelsinstead21 (3606)

| | Hi 14generaldefence, This theme about McDonalds sparks something off for me that I saw the other night about two American Men really overweight. One made it and slimmed down and has stayed that way the other has reverted back to his old eating habits. This is second program that has moved me to tears because I think more than anything these People have an addiction to this Food but they just don´t realise it. Can you become addicted to this kind of food? I guess you can but the really problem with them are emotional ones too. One of the Mens Doctor was so understanding and treated him with such compassion I think that this also saw him through his ordeal. Now he is able to walk again with crutches but he is not looking back. | | | | ladybugmagic (896)

| | In the states we have 12-step programs like "overeaters anonymous" which helps people overcome some of their addictions. I think the fact that McDonalds is so appealling to kids is what gets me. They have the most indoor playgrounds that any fast food restaurant has and the branding is so easy for kids to remember. Has anyone seen "Supersize Me" or "McLibel"? Very interesting movies with regards to McDonalds. I put a couple links below, including one that shows their slaughterhouses (graphic). They have more ethical methods of slaughter in the European McDonalds' and it would cost them NOTHING to insist their US factory farmers practice those same methods. They just won't. | | The world would have been better off without ever having a Charles Manson in it. The man who decided to have his followers kill numerous people back in August 8th of 1969. Including Sharon Tate who was pregnant with her first baby. The second and third we could have done without would have to be the person or people who really put the hit on JFK, MLK, and RFK, because the world would have been a better place had all three had lived a long life on this planet. JFK as President would have been great, MLK would have brought more peace to the world trying to get rid of racism. As for RFK he would have been around to help the poor people and their problems. As for the people I'm happy is around or had been around would be Oprah first. She is a strong, vocal, generous person who grew up with nothing and made herself one of the richest people in the world. The second I'm thankful for is Michael Jackson because he too was generous and for peace in the world. He left the greatest songs for us to continue to love forever. The last but not least would have to be President Clinton. When he was in office I think he did more good for our country then any president since JFK. The world loved President Clinton and he contributed alot to our country and is a great humanitarian. | | | | | | | ladybugmagic (896)

| | The three people or groups I think are the worst are 1. NOW, They have helped to confuse women and destroy the family. 2. The ACLU. They are suppose to fight for civil liberties for everyone, but they only fight for the liberals. It wasn't always that way, but it is now. 3. NEA They don't care a whit about the education of our children. All they want is the money. The three that I admire would be, 1. Mother Teresa. I don't think I need to say anything about her. 2. Pat Robertson because of his organization "Operation Blessing." Here is a link to it just in case you've never heard about it. http://www.ob.org/ and 3. The framers of our Constitution who knew no one should have complete power over another. | | | | | | | | | bestboy19 (2465)

| | I am not surprised that you are not surprised at my response. It's weird how feminism and homosexuality are to be blamed for families breaking apart, but never "divorce" or "dissolution". Always something empowering for someone else seems to be "confusing women" or some such nonsense. To the naked eye, operation blessing is nice. It helps orphans, it helps with disaster relief, hunger relief, medical care etc. Digging further, I have a dreadful feeling that they advance their christian evangelical agenda by offerring such help. I will bet they offer mandatory church services with the bowls of rice they donate. Pat Robertson, a bible literalist, is still profiting nearly half a billion dollars a year, and such investments are forbidden in the bible. He has made many defamatory comments regarding feminism and homosexuality. IE, he denounced Disneyworld for creating "GayDays", saying accepting homosexuality will result in hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, terrorist bombings, and possibly a meteor. He agreed with Jerry Falwell when Falwell stated the 9/11 was caused by pagans, abortionists, feminists, homosexuals, lesbians, the ACLU, and People for the American Way. He says that feminism is a "socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destory capitalism, and become lesbians." He hates women and homosexuals. Nice hero. | | | | bestboy19 (2465)
