Do you think aromatherapy works in de-stressing? Why? How?!  |

| Just curious as to what your opinions of this are. Do you think it helps manage or prevent stress, or is it just a commercial gimmick? I recently bought some rather expensive aromatherapy body wash, and while I feel like it smells really good, I can't say any of my stress is being relieved as a result of washing with it every time I take a shower. Do you own any type of aromatherapy products: candles, shampoos, sprays, body washes, etc? And do you feel like it actually WORKS or do you just buy it because it smells good? | | I think that it can work. There are cheaper alternatives to the more expensive stuff. Wal* Mart carries stress relieving lotion but it can make your hands dry and irritated if you use it alot. There are also bath salts and beads, I like those and haven't used any in a long time. Now that I think about it, I should get some more! lol! I think that if I were to buy anything like that for more then a few dollars, it had best work, or if not I'd never buy from that company again. | | | | | | |

| | hi maezee, I for one uses aromatherapy products..before I bought that product? I was firstly convinced by my friend to try the aromatherapy products, for she related me that " it has good effect in fighting stress".. So, when I tried the product? I can say it is just fine,or neutral in my observation..Why? because after reading some articles about aromatherapy and using the said product? it did not directly works.. I made a conclusion for myself that, Aromatherapy is a product that only changes your mood because of the scent it brings.. and what it directly do? it invade your sense of smell to absorb the loving scent then once it reached you brain? you gonna feel relax and it depends on how you feel using the product..Once you absorbed the smell of the scent? everything you feel is great about you.. So, it does not really cure stress totally but only relieve you for quite sometime when using it..because in reducing stress or fighting stress? we have to accept the fact that,it needs total life style make over like exercise, diet,or even herbal supplements to achieve it.. Aromatherapy is from countries who believed and practice that tradition and modernized their culture.. Somehow, we have to re-consider that products are claimed to be effective when only seen or advertised but when tried? different conclusions.. still it is in the person who can conclude if the product really works..not all products are fit to be useful to all person..some are a product of mind or how it is program the way you think of it ,while some is a product of visible effect..but it varies.. all have their views.. | | | | | | |

| | I think it's absolutely possible. The smell of lavender has helped me relax and helped me sleep before (I was advised to put some under my pillow), but it wasn't actually a product labeled for aromatherapy use. It was the lavender from our own backyard. I don't really like to go a chemical route and I think that's why it doesn't help some when there's the chemical form of aromatherapy stuff. Maybe, that's just me, though. I also think another thing is when you are so stressed out, sometimes your brain just kind of blocks the ability to relax, no matter what you try. Like I said, it can work, I do believe, but a part of it is you have to be extremely open. Remember to take a deep breath! If the oils or body wash don't work, try what I did (the lavender). | | Hi, I have never tried aromatherapy, but I have tried meditation. Have you tried meditation? I have a feeling that aromatherapy combines the principles behind meditation and the wonderful smells from herbs, fruits etc that stimulate our senses. Basically all these stimuli, whether it be simply breathing deeply, or breathing in nice smells, or nice smelling body washes all stimulate our senses which results in the release of chemicals in our nervous system which results in a relaxed outlook for a period of time. | | I have owned a few shower gels that smell like coconut and candles that smell like coffee but to tell you the truth other than me liking the smell which by the way does make me smile, the smell really doesn't do anything for my stress as far as I can see. While the gel makes me smell good and I do smile when I smell it - my stress is still there, blah. I have tried candles that have lavender in them, etc.. and well I can not see as they have helped with my stress. Now if I were to sit and watch the candle burning in a quite room - okay now that would relieve my stress. So, my answer to your question is no, I beleive its all a marketing gimmick.
