Holiday/Christmas parties at work?

Do any of you also have holiday or Christmas parties at work? When is it, and what do you typically do? Is it something you look forward to or dread? We have a holiday party, at the dry cleaners I work at, at a local restaurant (a room is reserved). We usually get free food and drinks, can bring our family members, and can enter raffles and drawings to win prizes and whatnot. It's actually something I look forward to, and it will be.. next Thursday. What about you? Do you have a holiday/winter work party, and if so, what are your general feelings towards it? Do you enjoy going? And do you think that these events are good for company morale, or just useless spending?

i work for a non profit christian organization that has a small number of staff but many volunteers. in order to thank the volunteers we have a luncheon that i have been busy planning. we go to a chinese buffet and have a program afterwards. its quite fun.

I would always stay away from holiday parties at work I mean come on now would you really want to spend the holidays with someone who could fire you for no wrong doing on your part or even for that matter with co workers who spread gossip about you that isnt even true. So yeah I just stay away from them period to avoid some problems.

maezee, I feel that these parties are good and worthwhile causes for the whole company. If you look further, the working staff have been toiling with the management to arrive and achieve success to this day. So, as a token of appreciation, it would only be healthy for the whole company to come together and enjoy the fruits of labor. It is a healthy culture where the company shows not only their appreciation but sincerity in gratitude. And having staffs' family members participating is also having a greater magnitude of gaining morale and understanding amongst all. So, I do not deem these parties as a waste or unnecessary spending. FYI, my company had arranged a Christmas and New Year trip for the whole company and close family members as well to Phuket, Thailand. I hope you have a great party and holiday. Take care and compliments of the season.
