I hurried into Albertson's (our local grocery store) yesterday to get afew things we needed and had a run in with a lady there. Just as you go in the one door there is a Starbuck's Coffee place where you can get a coffee and I thought it sounded good since I am addicted to coffee. (I am not real big on Starbuck's but they will do in a pinch)So anway, I walk up and the lady comes over to answer a question I have about the available Lattes. There was nobody else around and not a soul in line but me. She acted hurried and was even alittle rude as I asked a plain and direct question and she replied hurriedly and rude as if I was taking her time amd was ignorant to boot. She was even beating her finger tips on the counter making me feel like I was an irritant to her. I mulled over my options for a few seconds. The drumming continued and she moved around impatiently. I had had enough! I looked her right in the eye and told her "NEVERMIND! It looks like you are too busy anyway!" And I walked off. She hurried up behind me with a sample of one of the drinks. I waved her away feeling irritated and impatient with her now. I just wanted to get my items and leave. Have you had people behind the counter treat you like this during this holiday season? Does it irritate you? How do you react? What do you do?

hey celticeagle.. well yeah.. i had my own runs with those kinds of people.. i think they should be kind enough to satisfy the customers' needs.. coz if they act that way, they would have lesser customers in the future.. its not right to be so rude to somebody and as if wanting to put you away.. and have they ever heard of "customer is always right".. i guess people hiring counter people or even waiters should add good manners and right conduct to their hiring standards. lol..

It is all about customer service. I was really upset by her tapping. It was just so rude. Hiring standards is right. And alittle training might help.

NO ONE is always right. Most customers confuse the word service with servant. Then on top of it some of them lie. After being abused and harassed by customers, this is what employees become. They start out nice. You are dealing with the thick skin required to work in customer service. Here's one for you. I was in a Starbucks with a friend of mine. The lady in front of us asked for a medium mocha with a shot of vanilla. The cashier repeated the order to her, and she said yes. The cashier wasn't rude or nasty. The the lady resumed her conversation. When the order was made and called out she didn't get it. She got angry saying that it took too long to make such a simple drink. She wanted to speak a manager. When she spoke to him she changed her drink to a latte with a shot of irish creme. The employee was reprimanded. I spoke to the manager. The manager didn't apologize to the employee either. When you get that kind of constant treatment, it's no wonder they are wary with people.

Wow, that does sound awfully rude. Hooray to you for saying what you did. I would of left as well. I would not return to that Starbucks either unless it was to check in with management and lodge a complaint. Grab your store recipe for the groceries as it will state the date and time. report this employee to the management, at the very least. This person should not be in the position that they are. I am almost positive that there is someone else, more kind, patient and people friendly, that would be glad to serve you with a simile, in place of this emplyee whose job will likely be axed once you lodge a complaint. No doubt if they did it to you, they have done it to others and since there were no other patrons in the store, it is likely the employee was busy on the phone with her friend or had been in the back eating lunch when you arrived. Either way, there is no excuse to treat customers this way and Good For You for speaking up and for simply just waving her away when you made the good choice to just leave. Perhaps this employee with think twice next time. That is before you talk with their boss.

I almost wish more customers would act like I did and maybe employees would start acting differently.

This is a regular thing. Most of these girls/woman who work in such sort of places have an inferior complex, so they act high and mighty with customers, since they think the customers will think very high of them, if they act like this. But when the customer retorts back, they usually literally bow down. I usually do not show my temper with these kind of young boys and girls, but at times, I also loose my temper and give them a piece of my mind.

That may be part of it. I also think they don't have much of a work ethic now days as well.

I hate the finger tapping no matter who it is from. It drives me batty! I did all that funky tapping as a kid, I've grown out of it but I see many adults sadly have not.

hi celticeagle yes about a year ago I had the oddest experience about trying to help a cashier who made an error in my favor. I honestly thought if I was not honest and did not give her back her overpayment she would get in trouble with her manager.wow was i wrong. she snapped at me, look I never make errors.take this you are just holding up the line.I said again, you overpaid me, she repeated e ven more angrily.will you just go,I did not make an error. so okay I shut up, put the money in my billfold and walked out of vons. completely mystified as to why she had acted so angry and mean. the line was not that long and she had indeed made an error in my favor. I did try to do the right thing and got screamed at for my trouble. It was around Christmas time and I still do not understand her thinking. I did my math over and showed my son, and he too calculated and no she made an error.

I think she was embarrassed and one of those type people who just don't make errors. What a hoot, huh?

celticeagle, Like you, I am not spared from these run ins and there are quite a lot of them especially during peak hours. As for me, I will tend to walk away most of the time and for those extreme cases where it is intolerable, I will be looking for the management or the consumer protection departments to get the problem solved. Of late, a few of my colleagues are having run ins with after sales services and it is no joking matter watching the whole episode. And I just wonder what is actually happening and coming to this world. Take care.

LOL. Of course she hurried after you- she probably thought you were going to tell her manager about her crappy service.. And my guess it wasn't the first time. I can't stand people like this. And if I have the time... I will go to a manager.. How do these people think they are getting paid.. By our services! If you aren't buying and her rudeness is driving away customers -sales fall and soon - they won't have a need for that Starbucks there -she can start job hunting again. I just noticed this week that the Dunkin' Donuts in our local grocery store was gone.. That sucks.. It's only been there for a year or so.. Didn't last long. Next time just tell these people off. I bet their tune changes if you ask for the managers name and number.
