http://www.wyff4.com/video/21760530/index.html A Minnesota woman gave birth to a premie 15 pound 6 ounce baby boy last week. Yes, he was born 3 weeks early!!! The proud parents named him Axel but fondly calls him "our little Butterball". This is their third child. The 2 sisters weighed in at 11 pounds & 9 pounds with Axel determined to prove he is the man of the family. Being a premie, he is being monitored for heart problems associated with his premature birth. He barely fits into the premie isolet where he is being treated. The Mom was also a diabetic, but says the doctors helped her to keep her sugar under control to the point that they worried that it was too low. It will be interesting to see where this little linebacker will be going in his lifetime. I still can't imagine what it would be like to care for a 15 pound baby!!! What are your thoughts???

Well my niece who is a diabetic just had a baby who was also about three weeks premature due to her size. Once the lungs were fully developed, it was time to C-Section. My niece was huge the poor thing. In pain, her hips etc. First baby. over ten pounds. Cute as a button. The baby grew big because since my niece is diabetic, the baby was getting a lot of insulin from her Mom during development. The baby's sugar was a bit low at first but is all so fine now! My niece's baby could not wear new born cloths because she was already too big for them. My thoughts are that the baby will loose some weight in the first several months. Chances are the baby will not have any heart problems associated with being premature. This is exciting. Congrats to the Happy parents.

Lol. Thank you for your comment. My niece controls her diabetes with insulin shots. They too monitored the babies heart so I think that is what they are doing in this situation as well.

The Mother is a diabetic, but the doctors controlled it with pills. They had her sugar so low they were worried. The baby is being watched for heart problems. I'm not sure if he HAS heart problems or if they are WATCHING as a precautionary measure. There is NO way this kid will be wearing baby clothes. He'll be wearing adult diapers!!!

I saw this newbie on the news the other day. He entered this world looking like a 3 month old baby. I can only hope he's healthy and doesn't have any problems as a result of being premature. Going to be a little costly to feed this little guy. This couple produces some pretty big babies. I wish them all much good health and happiness.

I was waiting for him to sit up & say Hey, get that freaking camera outta my face!!! The parents say this will be their last as they fear what size the next one might be. Sounds like a GREAT idea to me!!!

Well, gabby, she had worked her way up. She had had a 9 pounder & an 11 pounder before she had the 15-1/2 pounder. This baby can rock Mommy to sleep every night!!!

I could tell you are a smart man the first time I met you!!! Fortunately, she didn't have him via natural childbirth as the doctor were smart enough to take him out via a C-Section. The real pain starts now!!!

BIG Baby - My step grandson Maddox a month or so after his birth.
I have a step daughter who has had four kids. Each one weighed exactly two pounds more than the previous one. Her last one is about 8 months old now. I have no idea what he weighs now but at birth he was 14 pounds some odd ounces and she had a natural birth! Talk about ouch! Here is a picture of my stepgrandson less than two months after his birth.........

I couldn't imagine giving birth to a baby that large! Was it by C-section? I had neighbors who had 3 very large babies, all by natural childbirth. The largest was almost 15 pounds at birth and could not use her right arm because her collarbone had to be broken in order to get through the birth canal. She was, uh, stuck. The entire family was large. I don't think any one of them, even the females, was under 6 feet tall. Also, as far as I know, they're all in the restaurant/bar business, not one of them ever went for a sports career. The family owned an Italian restaurant/bar in our neighborhood and when I moved away the kids were just beginning to take over. I remember when I had my first baby, a small 5 pounds 12 ounces (also born 3 weeks early), there was another baby in the nursery who weighed about 12 pounds. This baby seemed to be overdue, though, because they had to cut the baby's hair in the front so they could see it's face! This baby had hair already about 5 inches long! In the words of Forrest Gump (well, kinda), "Having babies is like a box of chocolate; you never know what you're going to get." LOL

Yes, he was a C-Section baby. I REALLY cannot imagine having a 15 pound baby naturally!!! Now that you've mentioned it, the Mom did say she was so large at birth that they dislocated both her shoulders just in order to get her out. So, it must be a family thing to be predisposed to having large babies. Her smallest baby was right at 9 pounds. He may very well choose to not enter sports, but he could be a linebacker for most pro teams right now. If he grows according to most babies, he will be a big young man!!! My neighbor's granddaughter was born with a head full of hair. The doctors had told her daughter that a lot of the nausea was caused from the baby's hair rubbing against the inside of her stomach. I had NEVER heard of such a thing, but I also don't have a medical degree!!!
